Great facility, caring staff
5 for all, it was a short stay for my dad but it was a great experience
All staff were extremely attentive.

The staff is wonderful, as well as the caregivers.
For the most part, my family has a great rapport with the caregivers, and they are very attentive to our sister. We also have a great rapport with the residents, as we are a part of that community as well .

Our families experience
Some of these I can't answer accurately such as the friendliness of staff. There is a small handful of aids who are the sweetest most caring people you will ever meet but there are some who are plain nasty and border on abusiveness. Quality of care is poor unless you happen to have one of the good aids. We gave the activities a 3, but the activities director is FABULOUS.

A wonderful place!
The Oaks at Charleston is a wonderful place. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist my mom when needed! They are ALWAYS doing things for the residents. Whether it be weekly outings or indoor activities! The food is wonderful and they offer many options. My mind is at peace knowing that my mom is in a wonderful facility!

Our families experience works.
The friendliness of the staff gets a 5+. I just want to say that every one is just so incredibly nice and loving to our father. Me and my brother are visiting now and we just see how well he is looked after. It helps us feel comfortable living in VA and MD. [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], and [name removed] gosh I can't remember the others names but all sooo nice. Also we were impressed when his wife [name removed] died they did a ceremony for him. Very impressed with the staff

The Oaks at Charleston facility is a nice one, but sometimes the repairs are a little slower. We did run into an issue but they were very accommodating. Based on the experience we have had with the Oaks, we would recommend this community to other families.

Would recommend works!
All 5's except meals, the only complaint my dad ever has there is sometimes the food is so great, some of the other residents agree. Although they have a new chef so we'll see what happens.
I really like that it is a smaller facility, and they have even started a little gardening club since my dad told them how much he likes to garden.

Great place all around
I would have to say "5" for each category. We have moved [name removed] to memory care building and he seems content and happy which is all we can hope for. My only concern is turnover of staff but that probably happens at all such facilities. We are happy with the staff and their care.

We would not have found the Oaks without A Place for Mom We're grateful
My stepfather was a difficult resident and his adjustment to the move made him a challenge. The staff regularly reassured us that they were prepared and able to help him. I say 4 only because it is an older facility. The housekeeping staff was excellent and many times had extra duties in his room. They also cared about him as much as the other staff. The staff went above and beyond to help us feel welcomed. We were there almost every other day at different times each visit and all the staff was friendly. He was cared for as much as he would allow. He declined very quickly and required more and more care. If my stepfather didn't show up for dinner the kitchen staff left 2 PB&J sandwiches for him because that was his favorite and he would come out to eat around 9. They would send me photos so I knew he was eating. I'm sure they were good but because my stepfather wouldn't participate I can only speak to what I saw with others. The residents would be waiting excitedly for activities to start. Without question, the value we received for the cost we paid was high.

A great place for your love ones
My loved one was previously a resident at Oaks at Charleston and everything was great for him at this facility. It was a good experience. The staff was loving and caring. Communication with the family was great. The housekeeping did a great job. The meals were good. They made the move in process easy. I highly recommend Oaks at Charleston to others! This facility really is a great place.

Overall a nice community with areas of improvement but with very attentive and quick response to concerns.
There have been some aids who were very rude, don't want to help residents and have even said to a resident, "you don't need help." Every single time I bring any issue such as this to the attention of [name removed] or [name removed] they have been 100% excellent in trying to address the issue by weeding out the poor workers or by having a meeting. I could not ask for them to be more attentive and eager to address issues and to listen to complaints. They are A-1 at what they do and really do care. I do have concerns about no longer having a bus driver to take residents to Drs appointments. The deciding factor for us choosing The Oaks was because they had transportation to appointments. There is a rumor that they do not know if they will replace the bus driver who recently left and whether or not they would even continue transportation for Drs appointments and also, there is word that later this year transportation to appointments will stop completely. It seems in order to stay in competition with other assisted living fax they would need to continue with transportation to Drs appointments.

I would tell a friend to keep looking. We picked this community, because of the price, and everything looked great. I am happy with the service that I received from the Rep at A Place for Mom. Other than that, they need to improve on a few things, as it relates to medication mangement, and their payment processes.

Right Place At The Right Time
This has been a pleasant experience for the family and our loved one. The staff have been helpful. The staff communication could use some improvement as there are times it is hard to get ahold of the memory care side when the family has questions.
There are three meals a day provided to the residents. Some of the care available includes: medication management and hygiene assistance.
