Friendly and Caring Staff are Absolutely amazing

TerraBella James Island is an assisted living community located in the beautiful community of James Island, South Carolina. Clark Sound is only a mile away and is a popular afternoon destination for our residents. If you have a history buff in your family we are only two miles from both the Secessionville Historic District as well as Fort Lemar Heritage Preserve and there are many other historical sites just a short drive away.

Poor management
Our family paid more money than the services our parent received. How can you not provide meals because food is not available? Toilet paper, paper towels and other supplies were often not available.Most of the caregivers were excellent but those who weren’t still remained even after complaints. Personal property stolen. Housekeeping was not always provided. Consistency with managements responses and actions were unacceptable and not of an executive level.
It’s understandable that the [facility removed] closed. Tremendously sad that families and residents have to relocate because of poor management.

Disappointing care, would not recommend
Absolutely awful experience here.
They screwed up his account from the moment he moved in- blaming central billing. This took 1 year to resolve.
They never filled a prescription for an infection when I was assured they would.
Delayed communication from the director.
Miscommunications between director and other staff leading to confusion over monthly fees.
Wrongdoings In facility - faculty not abiding by providing a diabetic diet even though it was stated upon moving in.
A staff member had a tenant fall and asked my HUSBAND to help her move the person back to their chair.
Medtechs do not understand meds or how to give them and they do not understanding the importance of taking blood sugar readings.

Good experience.
My mom has been there at TerraBella since April and seems to be doing well. The staff seem to love her and treat her well. The rooms and the facility are very nice and I think they are planning some improvements. I am happy with the facility and my mom seems pretty happy also.

doesn't live up to promises
It is just a mess there. The management has changed several times, there is no activities director, the food is horrible and the staff are uncaring. I definitely do not recommend the TerraBella James Island community.

They went through ownership and staff changes when [name removed] got there. Over time things have and are improving. I am confident he is looked after. He is settling in. There newer maintenance guy is terrific.I would recommend it. They have a new chef.

Review for TerraBella James Island
It's a delightful place with southern beach charm !The room was great spacious being able to look out the windows and see the hummingbird feeders in the birdhouse feeders in the garden beds was spectacular and if my mother could've handled it, I'm sure she would've really loved that. Just looking at everybody in the courtyard talking to each other was wonderful to see, I don't really have any constructive criticism because we were there for probably four hours and everything I saw was on top of it. I looked at their menu for food and it looked creative. Every day seemed very different so there seem to be a lot of choices.I just want to add that I really do value your service to because sometimes you feel really alone going through this and it's really good to know that there are people out there who care and to touch base with you even when you're busy.

We toured TerraBella James Island when searching for an Assisted Living facility for our loved one. We really liked this facility! Everyone was friendly. The atmosphere at this facility seemed good. However, they didn't have the room that we needed. We continued on with our search.

It's not a good place
The service is not up to standard. One day I came to the room and Rap music was being played on the TV. My father's sheets were not changed either. At the beginning, the place wasn't bad but I notice over time the staff began to slack off.

Ask questions before committing.
The dinner meal consists of sandwiches, which is not enough food or nutritional value for the residents. They don't have a lot of activities planned in which the residents can participate. As far as the building, it's modern and very up-to-date. It has a good appearance from the outside as well as the inside. They seem to be always short-staffed, and therefore immediate attention is not provided. The specifics for the level of care need to be identified to the family, vs. them saying that they have evaluated the resident and will provide the necessary services. I would advise you to ask management to define what are the types of services you will be receiving for the level of care.

Affordable and great location
The negatives were we moved my dad in in November and the staff were in a state of turnover and no one had really been there that long. There was a new director, nurse, receptionist, etc. No one really knew much but it is not their fault. The residents who were here needed a lot more care than he did so he really did not have anyone to interact with which is why we moved him out. The facility was very nice and I thought it was a good value for the money. The staff that were there were very friendly and helpful as well. I would recommend them to others, it just was not the right fit for my dad.

Friendly and Helpful Staff
I have asked several times for the staff take my loved one down to get a manicure.
They don't have a memory care unit and there is no stigmatization. It is a smaller community. It is in close proximity to family. The staff seems to genuinely care for my loved one.
The communication with the head nurse could be better.
It is not a fancy place, but this is what my loved one needs now.

My Review of Savannah Place
It is an okay place. The food is a problem, sometimes it isn't enough. Sometimes it is just a salad or half a sandwich for dinner, and this has happened on more than one occasion.
Some of the staff don't show respect to my loved one. They don't always go to help, and the response time is terrible.

My mother, [name removed], has been a resident of Savannah Place for 2 years. She loves the staff, food, her room / apartment, and is very happy and content there. My mother has dementia and cannot do stairs or live alone. I know she is safe at Savannah Place and well taken care of.
