The biggest issue we had was when we couldn't reach my mom and I called the front desk and asked if they could go knock on her door and see if she was there. The person at the desk said she couldn't leave the desk unattended, but she would look in about an hour. I didn't find this acceptable and said surely there is someone there who could take one minute to go check. But no. She ended up being fine but she could have just as easily had fallen and laid on the floor for who knows how long.
But overall I really think that Thunderbird was very good.

DON'T RECOMMEND
My loved one is unhappy there. The food is beyond terrible. The staff seem to hate their jobs and communication with them is very bad, never returning my calls. I regret putting my loved one in this place.
I would like to note that [name removed] was awesome in showing us around. The residents seemed to love her. We loved her too and she was the biggest reason we decided to choose Thunderbird. However, my loved one is unhappy......

My father was only there for 102 days. The only issue I have with Thunderbird Senior Living is they charge a $3500 one time fee. Since I knew my dad was going downhill quickly, I asked if this fee was negotiable. They replied "of course." After my father passed, I had to fight to get any of this $3500 one time fee back. They eventually refunded $1500. I thought this was outrageous for the short time that he was there. Hospice was in charge from 2/14-4/2, which is 47 days of the 102 days my dad lived there. My family and I were visiting my father every day. I think my dad got good care because they never knew when someone was coming. They did know we were coming every day. Towards the end of my dad's life, I would have to request the caregivers to change my dad's pad. They seem to be neglecting that care at the end of his life.

[removed name] helped us through the whole process from first contact, tour, explanation of facility, amenities, activities, rates, everything
We toured lots of places, maybe 8-10.
Thunderbird was an instant standout from all the others.
What grabbed our attention was the large number of residents we saw in common areas socializing with each other and engaging in activities. They all looked very happy, smiling, and so many treated us saying hello. None of the other communities came close to comparison
The meal plan was the more extensive than any of the others too. They have both set meals and order off the menu with the greatest flexibility in table service times as well.
The secure enclosed courtyards with well kept landscaping, grass, trees, large Koi ponds, and walking paths winding throughout are a very nice place for walking moms little dog and meeting others enjoying the outdoors too.
The apartment was freshly renovated. A standard for all new residents.
The transportation schedule to local shopping Dr. appointments and personal requests within 10 miles is great too.

This was a very Beautiful facility with Friendly staff and very Pleasant surroundings. It was Clean and welcoming. The Residents i saw all seemed happy and engaged. The model apartment was very nice with a lot of storage.

I'm really glad we chose this community. My mother has settled in very well. The residents are kind, and there's a strong sense of community. There are plenty of activities for her to enjoy, and I believe those have made the transition much easier. The staff are also extremely kind, professional, and welcoming.
I would encourage anyone looking for a new living situation for themselves or a loved one to visit several places and, if possible, share a meal there. Thunderbird allowed us to do that, which gave us a good idea of the food quality. We also had the chance to meet with residents without staff present to get the "brass tacks," which was great.

As a daughter I have peace of mind knowing my father is in a safe place and is able to have his needs met while retaining his independence. I would definitely recommend Thunderbird to others. They have a lot of options for additional services and care needs. The community is also very active for those that want to keep up a social life.

Although month to month contracts can be a plus.. it is also helpful to verify the paperwork you sign is also as the pamphlet reads. The kitchen hours are definitely not what they advertise in their paperwork. They were supposed to also be extending kitchen hours later into the evenings however they are no longer even considering that nor had they ever done that.

Very welcoming nice place for my parent!!
I would highly recommend TSL for any aging adult! It’s a very active place if that’s what you want or peaceful if you’d rather! The people working there are so welcoming and the tenants are mostly welcoming as well! The food in the dining room is good, has a nice selection and pretty open times to eat which is great!

It's really nice and clean and offers a lot of activities. They are very open to suggestions from the residents. Mom loves the interaction with all of the residents. When she lived in her home she had little interaction with people and activities. She is so much happier at Thunderbird. She just loves it there. The dining room is very nice (they have waitstaff that take orders). If they don't want to eat in the dining room, they can always take their dinners out or have room service ( at an additional charge). They also take their dinners residents to local places to do their shopping. I know they will take people to appointments also but we have not utilized that service yet.
