The Facility is lovely but falls short some of the other things advertised
The community and facility itself are lovely and conveniently located near Norterra shops. The place has nice decor, friendly front staff, and is very inviting. My concerns are more on the Memory Care side, where the staff seems limited and very busy taking care of the late-stage residents or those who require a lot more care, leaving the limited high-function residents with nothing to do but sit around the TV even though the website says daily engaging activities. The food is advertised with the following quote: "Our daily menu is curated by our experienced chef and includes unique specials..." This is not the case in MC, as the food is subpar and, at times, inedible, which, for the monthly cost of MC, things should be far better. Follow-thru is also something that needs improving, and they advertised that a family member does not have to give up their pet, but they do! $[fee removed] p/m for what is more like room and board is egregious. I will say the majority of the consistent staff are won

This place is awesome
Had pops in another place prior to moving him here which was a nightmare. These people truly show they care about what they are doing and from the get go have made me know I now have him in the right place. It's great to know that there are people out there still that care about what they are doing above the almighty dollar. The facility is top notch. Food is awesome. And the staff are very diligent. They always have activities that help keep the residents minds active. No one blows smoke and they address any concerns you may have. I can't say enough good about the place. Thank god I got him out of the other place which was so poorly ran. I can truly sleep well at night knowing pops is being cared for and that I made the best decision putting him in this facility.

Excellent Facility
When I visited the Retreat at Alameda I was warmly greeted by [name removed], I immediately knew this place was different. My Mom has been very happy and content since she has been there. There are always activities and special events, and I am always informed of them. Family and loved ones are always invited to participate. The way I know that the Retreat at Alameda was the right choice for my Mom is; When I would leave her when she was at her previous place, I would always feel uneasy and was not sure if she was being cared for as I would like and expect. I worried constantly. When I leave my Mom now, I feel content and know she is getting great care. She is always dressed well, clean, and participating in activities. Her room is always in excellent condition, the housekeeping staff maintains her room well. She is always carrying a drinking container with water, having snacks, and fed well. The food is exceptional as well. You owe it to your loved one to see what they have to offer!

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Arizona’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Arizona’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Retreat at Alameda 7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
