We recently toured The Ivy at Blue Oaks and were really impressed. We’ve been looking at a few places for my dad, and this one stood out right away. Everyone was very welcoming, and they even invited us to stay for lunch and happy hour with live music, which was a great experience and honestly a lot of fun. It gave us a good feel for what day-to-day life there would be like. My dad was especially impressed with how big the rooms are; the largest we’ve seen so far. He also liked running into familiar faces, which made the community feel comfortable and reassuring. Overall, The Ivy at Blue Oaks is our top choice for when my dad is ready to make the move. We’re very glad we took the time to tour and would definitely recommend checking it out.

I Am His Wife Again!
Making the decision to move my husband into memory care was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. Caring for him at home had become overwhelming, and the thought of moving him anywhere felt impossible and heartbreaking. From the very first interaction, the women at Ivy Blue Oaks put my mind completely at ease. Their compassion, patience, and genuine care made all the difference during such an emotional transition. My husband has now been living in memory care at Ivy Blue Oaks for six months, and I can honestly say he is thriving. The activities keep him engaged and stimulated, the meals are wonderful, and the staff treats both residents and families with kindness and respect. There is a true sense of community here. This move has been the best thing to happen to us in years. I no longer feel like just a caregiver, I can be his wife again. I am deeply grateful to Ivy Blue Oaks for giving us peace of mind and a better quality of life.

I toured Ivy Blue Oaks today, and I was genuinely blown away. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, inviting, and full of life. The community is beautiful, and it immediately felt like a place where people are truly enjoying their days. As a family member, it meant so much to see a place where my mom would not only be cared for, but actually happy. She absolutely loves the food, and after seeing the dining experience firsthand, it’s easy to understand why. Everything looked fresh, appealing, and thoughtfully prepared. The activities are a huge highlight. There’s an impressive variety, and it’s clear that residents are encouraged to stay engaged, social, and active. This isn’t just a place to live — it’s a true community where residents are involved and connected. I left the tour feeling excited and reassured. Ivy Blue Oaks sets the bar high, and today’s experience confirmed why so many families speak so highly of it. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking

The Ivy Blue Oaks
Our family has been extremely happy with Ivy Blue Oaks. As a family member, it means a lot to see how much my mom enjoys being there. One of the first things she talks about is the food — she truly loves it. Meals are something she looks forward to every day, and she often tells us how good and satisfying they are. The activities are another highlight. There’s always something going on, and they do a great job keeping residents involved and entertained. My mom has stayed active, social, and engaged, which has made a noticeable difference in her overall happiness. It’s comforting to know she’s in a place where she feels comfortable, cared for, and excited about her day. Ivy Blue Oaks has created a positive and welcoming environment, and our family is grateful for the experience.

Our family has had a wonderful experience with Ivy Blue Oaks. As a family member, I’ve seen firsthand how much my mom genuinely enjoys her time there. The food is one of her favorite parts of the day—always well-prepared, tasty, and something she looks forward to. Beyond the meals, the activities really stand out. There’s a great variety, and they keep residents engaged, social, and active. My mom often talks about the activities she participated in and the friends she’s made, which gives our whole family peace of mind. The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, and it’s clear that a lot of thought goes into creating a positive daily experience for residents. We’re very grateful for the care and effort that goes into making Ivy Blue Oaks feel like a true community.

The Ivy @ Blue Oaks - Should I move my parents here?
However the place had lost their Activity Director 6 weeks prior to my mom moving in. I probably wouldn't have moved her there had I known that. It's taken another 6 weeks & she just started yesterday. The two part time Activity Director positions also aren't filled. Nothing has been happening in terms of activity. My mom is bored. She colors by herself every day for hours. No one is ever in the theater room. The residents were calling their own bingo numbers. Just overall frustration. Staff are leaving because they don't pay enough. They can go to other places who are paying $[fee removed] more an hour. There really isn't a Supervisor or Manager on shift in the late afternoons or weekends. Every day at 4:00, 20-22 mostly ladies come to the lounge for happy hour. They only have two round tables & they all sit in their chairs in a circle around each other. The residents have asked several times for more tables so they can put their drinks on the table but corporate said it doesn't look good. ????? I am getting ready to write an email to the Executive Director. I wrote an email to the Chef about the slowness of getting soup & salad & other things but he never responded. It takes forever to get an entrée. Just keep my name anonymous. For being a new facility opened in December they still have growing pains.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know California’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored The Ivy at Blue Oaks 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies.
