About the facility
The Arbors at Chicopee

The Arbors at Chicopee in Chicopee, Massachusetts, is situated on five acres of lushly wooded grounds, a secluded campus located near quiet residential neighborhoods. Peaceful green spaces dot the surrounding area, and the Connecticut River flows just to the west. The Arbors at Chicopee is among ten communities in the family-owned and operated business with a quarter-century of experience in serving seniors.

Your loved one can be helped with everyday tasks such as grooming and taking medications. Nurses are available throughout the day and on-site health care visits — including for physical therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, and audiology — eliminate the need for inconvenient trips outside the community. Weekly housekeeping and personal laundry services take away the hassle of household chores.

The Arbors builds a strong community through its resident council, daily programs, weekly shopping trips, and group fitness classes. Several common areas — including lounges with fireplaces, outdoor patios, a library, and a pub — invite residents to join in conversation with others.

The Arbors serves restaurant-style meals, but it’s never frozen or processed cafeteria food. Instead, the community offers healthy options, comfort foods, and resident favorites using the freshest available ingredients.

Tour experience
They each took the time to take us on a tour and answered all our questions. We were impressed with all of them. We could think of different relatives who would fit better in one place and another relative who would fit well in a different one. We would be comfortable having any relative in any of these 4 facilities. We saw the assisted living part of the Arbours in Chicopee but not the memory care unit because they did not have an open spot.

a nice community
We are very happy with where our loved one is at, we would not move her for any reason. It is a lot of money but for someone who takes advantage of all the different amenities that are offered it is worth it. Our loved one does not really participate in the activities but what they do offer are really good. They do talk about how great the meals and dining service is - that they love. Only complaint which is just how all communities work is the intrusion into the room without really being notified, but that is just something our loved one is getting used to

Compared to other communities in the area the value here is great, they have really good activities and it is in our hometown so very close for our family to visit.

My review of the Arbors
I would recommend this community for your loved one. The staff are friendly and they have had some of their own family become residents at the facility and that makes it a good thing because they care for them like family.

The entrance is very appealing
We chose this facility because it was in her hometown and we liked the common rooms and individual room sizes, and the lovely courtyard where they have picnic tables and residents can do some gardening. The staff I met were also very friendly. They have 2 sizes of rooms so you are able to choose based on your needs. The bathrooms are very large. They do have a respite room here also which is very nicely furnished. So if someone is thinking about moving in, you are able to try it out for 30 days. Or if your family member you are staying with leaves town and you need a place to stay, it is a great option. They also have memory care on the second floor. I would recommend this community.

I want to see some changes
I chose this community because I live and work near the facility and I could visit my mom frequently. The transition from independent living and assisted living has been a bumpy road for her. I like the facility and the apartment is cleaned very regularly. There’s never any strange smells in the halls like other places. The laundry facility, kitchen, and carpet are always clean. They do offer laundry services but that is an additional fee. My mother says the food is substandard but the lunch service is the best of all 3 meals offered. She has also taken to a few nurses who have been exceptional. The facility does offer activities like Wii bowling, bingo, crafts, wine and cheese every Friday, and movie nights. But, there are a few downfalls to this facility. I don’t think she’s getting the quality of care that I’m paying for. The some of the staff isn’t the best. My mom is in a wheelchair and there was one instance where the nurse got upset because she had to move a small end table. She didn’t have to lift it or anything; just slide it. The nurses often times say really inappropriate things to my mom about how they don’t want to do certain things. She has specific days set up for showers and the nurses flat out refused to come in and help her so I had to come in at night after work and shower her. I’ve brought this to the attention of the staff and I really do hope it will change. I’m not saying I wouldn’t recommend this facility but I want to see some changes.

Bright and clean, lively atmosphere with lots of residents coming and going - hopping on a mini-bus as we arrived, attending WII Bowling inside, and constantly on the go in twos or threes through the halls as we toured - we had an overall impression that it's a beehive of activity, and we were only there an hour! Conveniently located in Chicopee and they seem to take full advantage of the nearness of community concerts, local restaurants, and shopping. A beautiful, modern facility.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Massachusetts regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment.
