The one area that continues to be problematic is inconsistency with the administration of eye drops in the self-administered drug program. In my mother's case, missing eye drops occasionally is not life-threatening but for residents for whom adherence to consistent meds is vital, this might be a significant problem. Many activities take place on the level below the lobby, which residents reach via an elevator. If a resident is not comfortable using an elevator independently (which is a challenge for my mother who is legally blind and not at ease in elevators) this is a bit of an obstacle. In general I do not think staff is prepared to make sufficient accommodations for residents with little or no vision.
