Facilities are very good and the people are very friendly.
The unit we took was ready when we were told. The maintenance people were prompt in hanging our three TV's. The Garden Home had new carpet, new paint and new Refrigerator. I get on a small bus every Thursday with my neighbors and are taken to different places to have a nice lunch. Very good way to make friends. I have played and won at Bingo. There are about four different activities scheduled each day (including Saturdays and Sundays).
Highly recommend.

Our families experience
Mom absolutely loves it where she is. She does complain about the food sometimes, but who doesn't. They have LOTS of outings where they take the residents out to shop, sightsee, eat, etc--she LOVES that!!

Room for improvement...
With the overall experience and the cleanliness - It seems like I was constantly addressing problems. The monthly fee included cleaning her room. I think she went almost four months where they had a housekeeping person quit before they hired someone. Housekeeping in that time period was intermittent. Many times I did the cleaning and took out her garbage because no one came to do it. I complained but it seemed all complaints fell on deaf ears. Administrators were NOT friendly to me. I think they're learned early on that I was going to hold them accountable so they preferred not to be friendly. [name removed]person that took care of the monthly bills rarely got them right. I had to go through her bill carefully each month to make sure there were no errors. When my mom passed.....she was in hospice home. I called to let them know and the [name removed]answered the phone and said she was sorry to hear that. I never received a call from the director or any other person there.....except for her 2 nurses. I found that very unprofessional. It told me that they really do not care about their residents. I paid an extra [fee removed] a month for mom to have help dressing and bathing. RARELY did she get help dressing and after I complained enough she finally had help when bathing. Any time I questioned them about that I was told ..oh I didn't know she was supposed to have help with that. That was a [name removed] problem. That should have been in her chart to be done on a daily basis. In their defense mom may have refused that at times. I think meals were ok...they were better when she got there then when she left due to some changes they made. Mom would describe the activities as "boring". Again that may have just been her. I did not feel it was worth the value. Except for the two nurses that she occasionally needed the rest of the staff seemed to do as little as they could get away with.....that was how I saw it. That may be different for someone who needed a lot of care. Mom was very self sufficient.
I did not like Five Star as you can gather. I expected much more than Mom got for the money we were paying. In all honesty I may have felt the same way no matter where she was.....I'm sure there's no perfect place for loved ones.

Friendly community
All of the categories are a 5. We have had nothing but a great experience so far with Five Star Residences. The staff members at the community have been amazing!! The food is great and our loved one is really loving her cottages. We would recommend this community to other families who may need a place for their loved ones.

I’m So Glad My Dad Is At Five Star In Fort Wayne
My 85 year old father is legally blind and has now been diagnosed with dementia. He has been living at Five Star for about seven years now. He started out in the independent homes at first. They were so lovely and spacious. Great location and community too. He now lives in the main assisted living building and has some help from the great staff. I’ve gotten to know everyone and there are so many kind and helpful staff members.
My dad loves the food in the dining room. And I really enjoy talking with the front office and nursing staff.
They offer many activities with our favorites being the therapy dogs and the musical guests.
The location and accommodations cannot be beat in my opinion. And what a bonus that the staff are so helpful and nice to both of us!

A positive experience
We chose Five Star of Fort Wayne because of the smaller, cozy feeling and the fact that the many residents were out of their rooms.
Some of the staff who answer the phone are very friendly and helpful. There is one who isn't as warm and friendly. Same with the head of the place.

My loved one is constantly complaining the food is terrible. We have gone as far as buying her a bigger fridge, crock pot, and a little electric skillet so she can prepare some of her own food. She doesn't want to go down there everyday to eat. She loves the place not interested in leaving, but in her words the food sucks.

"Great Staff, Food, and Facility - Would Recommend
Every staff member from dining service to nursing and care greets the residents by name. Every one of them is friendly, kind, and patient. The food options have a nice variety with daily specials, but also several standard options if the specials don't appeal to them. The food is very good, not like institutional food.

Do not recommend
They lie, they raise the rent too much. The don't fix things that are broken. They said she could move in [date removed] it wasn't ready, she couldn't get in until August and they charged her for July. The place wasn't clean at move in. They said she didn't pay the community fee but she did. I was there!! I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone! She is moving out. They are not helpful at all when there are issues with the bill or maintenance.

Our Experience
The facility was nice and the administration seemed friendly enough, but we were not able to move my mother in because her condition became worse and she had to go to skilled nursing. To recommend this place, I would tell families to read the fine print thoroughly. Since my mom didn't move in, they would only refund part of the deposit and none of the first months rent, even though she or her things were never moved in. Because of this, I would lean against not highly recommending.

Our Experience so far
The staff is mostly friendly and quick to learn about mom at Five Star Residences of Fort Wayne. Communication with the family is not great, it would be better if regular meetings or updates could be scheduled with the family. The food is excellent. They offer a good variety. This facility could improve their interactions with new residents and their families after move- in. The first few weeks were very difficult and stressful.

We picked this community, because mom liked it alot when we toured and it was reasonably priced.The meals have gone down hill according to my mom. Dishwasher has been broke for a week or more so they are serving meals with paper plates plastic forks and plastic cups. Paying what we are the food and dishwasher thing is crazy. To keep my mom happy I have had to bring her food at times cause she isnt happy with it. Other then that the place us great!!! Items above need attention!
