Courtland Place review
This is independent living - so I don't think the care services applies - for helpfulness, maintenance etc. that kind of care I'd rate 5. You eat at 4 to 5 but it is really expected to be there at 4, assigned seating which I personally don't like as you really don't get a chance to talk to different people. Food is ok but always room for improvement. There are quite a few activities available. I haven't done many as I am still settling in. But the activities director seems to really work on this. This is the only place I looked at. Talked to 5 or 6 others given my name. This was built for condominiums so not just an apt building. One story. halls maybe 10 ft wide, vaulted ceilings, an electric fire place., a washer dryer in the apartment. No steps - activity rooms in basement but an elevator. I took this apt because it has a back yard grass and trees - secluded (I have lived in woods for 40 years so I didn't want to see garages, etc).

Smaller facility, limited activities
I only stayed there 5 months. During that time there were several people fired including main person in charge. Or there was a turn over as lesser staff quit. Friendliness if staff depended on staff - some friendly others not.
It ended up that maintenance man became director cook became janitor. Independent living is no care unless you mean changing a light bulb - maintenance things taken care of. Mainly. While I was there , there was little stability, much complaining.
I moved to my [community removed] which is less money and in general much better. I really did not want meals.
After a couple of months I myself didn't like it.
I was OK with my first experience - lovely backyard. Fireplace etc. I had lived on 40 acres for 42 years so it was a good intermediate place to be. I had not wanted meals in the first place so cost was reduced by moving. I was just trying to be honest in ratings. At time it was independently owned and a rental agency was handling it who apparently set policies. While I was there they got rid of agency, tried to sell, but now I think it's back to being kept. However, I heard they are trying once again to sell the Apts if people want. So things may be leveled out by now -unfortunately, there was such confusion while I was there. In other words to hang a title of staff turnover may not be - I moved out in April and that's when maintenance man became director. At the time I left there were a lot of empty apartments
