No extra charge.\nAlthough they don't do regular \"activities\" they know that my dad was an avid fisherman. They are arranging a fishing trip for him where he can go to a local lake. They will push his wheelchair out onto a dock and let him fish! Wow!\nMy dad turned 100 in December and the whole day at his facility was turned into a birthday celebration for him. Each meal was catered to his likes. They bought him a gift.\nAt his old facility, they would've put up a couple of signs and brought him a balloon.\nI prefer the small residential facility over a larger facility by far!\nIt turns out that there was a mixup when a place for Home made the appointment for me to go visit this location. So I showed up when they thought the visit had been canceled.\nI was welcomed in and shown around. So I saw the facility caught unawares.\nThe owners are wonderful people. Their children sometimes interact with the clients. My dad is tickled to see the little ones running around.\nEven though it does not happen very often.\nAny small request that I have made they have come through. My dad mentioned to me once that he wished he could have apple juice with each meal. The very next day, apple juice began appearing with each meal.\nThose are the kind of small touches that I really appreciate.\nOne last thing. Although there were more people there at that facility, that was part of the problem. No one saw him steadily enough to see some of the signs of things happening. In a residential care where he is now, At Unique family care he has the same caregivers 24 hours a day. They know him intimately. He knows them better than he knew anyone at the previous facility. I can see that he is getting better care.\nThe perfect example is when he was helped in the bathroom, As he was on the toilet, the caregiver said I see that your legs are very dry. Would you like it if I rubbed some lotion in them?\nAt the previous facility, they might have noticed his dry legs, but no one had the time to rub in lotion. I could not be any happier with where he is. The owner and her husband are very caring and good at communication. That part is better at this location, also. He was at what was considered a very good facility in OR.
