Do not put a loved one here
Don't go there. That's my comment. This is really a place set up for independent living. If you need help, you are out of luck. Don't be fooled by how beautiful the facility is. Don't be fooled by what they promise you - they lie to you. We moved my parents out in [date removed]. It is a horribly run facility. Only interested in money. The aides are not trained nor do they seem to care. They complain about being overworked but they don't do anything.

The Villas of Manalapan
While I believe we made a good decision to place my parents at the Villas of Manalapan, there are concerns we continue to have. The facility is beautiful, very clean and the staff seems to take care of their basic needs. The meal plan, activities and entertainment is really great.

Thank you for sharing this information with us. We appreciate all feedback, positive and constructive. We, like many businesses, have occasional staffing challenges, but often times our staff are in the rooms providing care, nursing responses in real time and are proud of our results, and our staff, who work together to meet the needs of our residents. We have a variety of scheduled programming including trips, posted in many areas in the community. appreciate the positive feedback on our environment and food. thanks again for taking the time to share a review with us.

Desperate stay away
Don’t send loved ones there, they lie take lots of money and forget about resident . My moms a vegetarian and kosher and they serve her meat. For dinner they give her a cold HAM sandwich with potato chips, ham is meat and not kosher and not even fries. Delivery guy drops food on ground cleans up spilled food and leaves the rest for my mom, didn’t even offer to get something new. Unbelievable. Refused to let my mom go to ER until I yelled, and luckily she did because her extremities were covered in sores she had a UTI and bilateral pulmonary embolisms. They could have killed her. All my moms clothes are missing, one aid didn’t want to put on soft nigh gown I bought but other aid said ok. Two days later that gown and my moms soft blanket were missing and they never found it mysteriously, or 7 pairs of pants.

Buyer beware
The facility itself is clean. When you walk in, it's beautiful and makes you feel good about living here. The food is good. In my opinion, it's better than most places in the area. We toured several. The activities staff is lovely, but the quality of the activities is lacking. Housekeeping of resident areas is lacking. They do a quick surface clean only, if you can even call it that. I end up cleaning behind them almost every time, especially my parent's bathroom. It's just never a good or thorough cleaning. Overall, they're unorganized and there's not a set process for anything here. Starting with the intake process. They told us that several forms were required, but never gave them to us. I had to ask several times. The intake lady that we worked with, I don't even know how she has a job. The whole process was just totally unorganized. Care plan changes are unorganized also, we found that out the hard way when they recently made one for my mom. It was made, but wasn't followed at all. The nursing staff is mostly great, but you have to be on them all the time. They charge a lot of money for not enough at this facility. They're also incredibly inflexible. My mom needs help with showering, nothing else, just showering. Well, that's considered a higher level of care. Even though that level consists of many things and mom only needs one of them. So we had to pay $1,000 extra per month just for help with showering. Well, they would show up when mom was at breakfast, mark it as unable to complete, and leave it at that until next time. I got frustrated and asked if we could have them come to help her at a different time of day. They agreed to come in the early evenings instead, but never did. When I asked about it, I was told they didn't come because they were caring for other residents and didn't have time. So I cancelled it and now I go and help her shower. I will say, there are a few good things. If my parents don't show up for dining, someone does go to check on them and make sure they're ok. Also, if I mention a concern/problem to the nurse, she follows up almost immediately. There are other facilities/options in our area, but my dad says he likes it here and wants to stay. So we're making the best of it. I would recommend them to friends and family, but only for a loved one who is looking for true Independent Living and doesn't need assistance of any kind.

The Villas of Manalapan
The Villas of Manalapan was good. My mother stayed for about 2 months, but they were severely understaffed. For a month, we had my mother in the special unit for Alzheimer's on the top floor where it's locked, and there was only one person there at a time for too many patients. They needed two people; they were very understaffed. I know it's industry wide and it may not be their fault they don't have sufficient staff, but we just couldn't keep her there. I'd suggest that they have two people there at all times because if one patient needs care, that staff member will have to spend some time in their room, and the rest would be left unsupervised. There were residents sitting in the lounge as well. What happens if one person falls in the lounge and the nurse is in another persons bedroom? They wouldn't know, and they need two set of eyes at all times - one handling problems, and one watching the rest. I couldn't keep her there under those circumstances and I didn't feel comfortable doing so. The community itself is absolutely beautiful and the food is good, but the service was understaffed. I felt my mom didn't have sufficient care for their price or for any price. I want others to know this, because you'll go and you'll see how beautiful it is, but after being there a while you'll see the flaws. The most important thing was that there was not enough coverage.

Great Place
The following review was written by Florence Elias My husband [name removed] and I came to The Villas from Florida to be closer to our children. Our son and his family live only 5 minutes away. I was more apprehensive about coming to the Villas than my husband Joe was. We both were nervous. In a month or so, we both realized that we made the correct decision. The Villas is immaculate, beautiful with a great variety of delicious food. The help tries in every which way to be helpful and make you happy. The Staff is great! I feel very safe here. On a scale of 1-10, we both give it a 9.5! or 5 stars if you will! [name removed] and [name removed]

Home at the Villas
My mom moved into the Villas In October and has had nothing but great things to say about her new home since. The first day we walked in we knew we had a found the perfect home. Not only is The Villas beautiful but the staff is loving and kind, the food delicious and her new friends delightful. She’s busy everyday and I know she is safe and being well cared for.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the New Jersey regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about New Jersey regulations for Assisted Living.
