The Residences at Greer review
At times I was pleased with everything, but at times I was unhappy with almost everything. We have worked with 5 different administrators in the [date removed] years Mom was there. I think the problem is the company who owns the facility, MSA, is hard to work with & doesn't pay enough to keep good employees-including administrators. They had trouble keeping chefs so the food was up & down & not always nutritious. Most of The med techs & care givers were very compassionate and helpful but were frequently out so they almost never had a full staff. The front desk is not always manned & people are able to come & go at will, good &/or bad. For the last few months, Mom really probably needed skilled nursing care & was past just assisted living so I had private care givers from 7 am-7 pm because they did not have the staff to handle her needs & I didn't want to move her. That caused the cost/month to double. The activities director changed & the new one is awesome but they kept having to pull her back to the floor to do meds & she couldn't do the activities properly.

New Resident info
They really care about your family member resident and will do everything they can to make everyone happy. I also love that your resident door locks itself when shut so that no one can come in. Also, you must furnish your own room with a bed and bed linens and any chairs, lamps, tables and TVs you would like. They do provide the receiver for the cable TV channels for you. They will also hook it up for you. The following important notes are for memory care only. If your family member is in memory care, write their name near the tag of their clothing in ALL of their clothing so it does not get mixed up with the rest of the residence's clothing. It is also not a good idea to have small, expensive items like a cell phone, small music player, watch, or jewelry, because in memory care they 100% will get forgotten and lost and most likely thrown away by your family member resident themselves, as their brain function declines. Especially do not send family heirlooms or glass items, as these will become lost or broken in memory care.

A wise choice for our mom
When we realized that our mom could no longer live alone in FL, we began a search for a care facility that was attractive, near our home & affordable! After looking at several places, The Residences was the obvious choice! The whole place was bright & open, and the rooms were spacious, with a huge bathroom and walk-in closet! We were able to move in very quickly & Mom settled in very well . The office staff was very helpful, and the care staff did a great job of meeting Mom’s special needs. As we visited almost daily, we developed an open rapport with the staff and they were quick to listen & help. I may add that no place is perfect, but one’s kindness and respect for a staff that has a very challenging job to do is so very important!! We had access to excellent Hospice care as Mom needed it and we could rest knowing she was in the best place for her in her difficult last days!! When looking for assistance for your loved one, give The Residences at Greer carful consideration!!

Meeting all expectations
So pleased with the service & attention my mom is receiving at The Residences at Greer. Started off rough in the beginning due to staffing challenges and Covid issues, but has made tremendous progress with the facility. A special mention goes out to [name removed] whom ensures her best representation of Residences. She displays true professionalism, efficiency, and attentiveness. A very hard working individual that shows passion in her work. Considering the volatile labor pool of today, [name removed] is not someone to jeopardize losing. Keep up the positive progress !

Never leave your loved one here!
They lied, they had no working monitoring equipment, no receptionist, no oversight, no emergency response system. Poor or no handicap equipment. The director [name removed] lies. She talked us into a month of respite care. She changed the room we were supposed to get. She DID NOT provide linens. The staff is under experienced and there is NOT enough of them. We lasted 4 nights. We found a resident lying in the parking lot and could not find ANY staff to help. This place is a beautiful death trap

would recommend
Based on the experience we have had so far, for the most part our loved one likes it. However he does complain a lot about the food that they serve. Other than that, I do believe he is happy there. Compared to other facilities prices in the area, yes I would recommend them to other families.

Not the place for my Dad anymore. He's outta there!!!!!
My Dad was here for almost 2 years. Since then it has been a revolving door of staff, incl. 3 different directors. It's 1 disaster after another, Everyday! They can't fix one problem without 3 more popping up. There is never any meaningful change to permanently resolve issues. Just empty promises to fix it. The facility is in steady decline. The cleaning is almost non existent. The carpets and the upholstery on the chairs are disgusting. When touring, take note that most of the items are just for show. The fireplace in the lobby has never once been on and the residents sit in jackets, hats and blankets. The tv's in the lobby & bistro aren't even hooked up. The activities are sporadic. They cancel on a whim. Bingo is about the only staff led reg. activity. Most are resident led, playing Wii or working a puzzle. They need a REAL CHEF or food service co. to run the kitchen! So many problems in the dining room. Never enough staff. Please keep looking. This is NOT the place for Mom or Dad.

Not Happy
Everything was fine until she choked on her breakfast and EMS had to get her back breathing. She spent about 10 days in the hospital and about 10 days in rehab. Then 3 days before she was to be released back to the Residences, they reassessed her and decided that she was too dangerous. So I had to find her a new home in only 3 days. I had to get the Care Patrol to find me a place. So I'm not too happy with The Residences. I was overall satisfied until they refused to take her back. It was a good value, even though she is diabetic and didn't always get the right food.

My 2 Cents
Overall, it is not a bad facility, and many of the staff do care about the residents. Housekeeping Doesn't do a very good job of dusting or deep And they don't do a very good job with laundry they often return items still wet not dry. The staff tries to be very helpful to the best of their ability. I think they're kind of limited in some ways as far as what they're able to facilitate for residents simply because there's not enough staff and too many residents. The the food so far has been just barely acceptable it's a lot of potatoes no vegetables no salads no fresh Vegetables at all that I have seen any time I have been there everything comes out of a can or a box. Baked potatoes are rarely offered yet French fries are served nearly every day. Most mornings that text my father and the other 40 people in the dining room over an hour and a 1/2 to be served because they're just not organized it's like the person who's doing the food is not of institution or buffet style cook and it really shows. My dad has had problems with Heating and air conditioning since he moved in he cannot get the room to regulate it goes from 80 degrees to 60 degrees in a matter of an hour the best way to control it is to keep a big blanket and pillows on top of the vents so it can't blow any air into his room They were supposed to replace it before Christmas we're still waiting. Please improve the food - Children and teenagers like breaded mashed chicken tenders that looked like they came from a high school cafeteria and they like French fries everyday, most grown adults do not, the food is absolutely sub par so much so that I often pick my dad up and take him out to eat on a routine basis even though we're spending [fee removed] For him to be there and have 3 meals A-day. If I could pick 2 things for you all to improve it would be the food number one most important thing and number 2 would get a good hvac company that's responsive to the requests of the manager on staff there, his name is [name removed] and he gets promises that they are gonna come out and then they just don't show up and he can't go anywhere else because there's a contract involved. They do offer activities, My dad has begun to participate in some of them he really likes the music and the bands that come in. As far as value for cost the best thing about the facility is it's only 5 minutes from my home so I can get to him quickly and often and that's the best that I can say.

Good Community
They have been very good to my mom. Most of the staff are very friendly and most of them do a really good job. The administrative staff is also very supportive and listening to concerns and trying to dissolve any concerns you may have. The residents receive 3 meals a day, however this area could use some improvement, they have a new chef coming in in hopes that the food will be even better.

I toured The Residences at Greer, and it was good. We chose another community because of the fact that The Residences was a two story building with elevators. My brother has dementia and I think he'd get confused.

Tour experience
We toured with The Residences at Greer and did not like that they separate their memory care residents from their assisted living residents entirely. We looked at the memory care unit and did not think it was nice at all. It was not a place I would want my loved one living.

Community Tour
The Residences at Greer left a bad impression. It was messy, not clean, and the carpets were stained. The staff were nice enough. But the activity room was crammed full of stuff and not organized, which made it look like they don’t even do activities. I didn't see residents up and about, which was concerning. I totally ruled them out right off the bat, mainly due to lack of cleanliness.
