Our family's experience
My husband and I chose the Ivy Park at Piner because 1. Their initiation fee was the most reasonable 2. The staff are very helpful and answered our questions any time. 3. Their locked area looks clean 4. We can choose a private or semi private room, and either one I choose a resident have a private bathroom (but a shower is shared for a semi private. 5. They have nicer views Cons: 1. Whoever comes in, the just need to write name and can proceed to the memory care area. They don't verify visitors' ID. 2. We kept on asking for the room key, but it took almost a month. We still don't have a room key. The staff can lock the door when we asked. 3. There are many times other residents came into my brother-in-law's room and even several items were missing. (Therefore, we don't leave any valuable items in his room) 4. Nobody is actually walking with him even though we requested. It's literally let the residents do on their own.

A caring experience for my wife
The food was, for the most part, prepared and presented nicely. All areas were kept very clean. The staff was friendly, effective, and caring. Personal touches like painting finger nails and braiding hair were a nice touch. All needs were met in a timely manner. Overall a good experience that I would recommend to anyone needing memory care for a loved one.

Dear Brad, Thank you for sharing your experience. We know how important it is to feel confident in the care your loved one receives, and we’re so glad your wife was supported with kindness and attention. It’s wonderful to hear that both the environment and the personal touches made a difference. Small gestures can mean so much, especially in memory care. We truly appreciate your recommendation and your trust.

Review for The Lodge at Piner Road
Staff are wonderful and caring. They know all the residents. Activities include games (my mom loves bingo) music and therapy dogs. Food is pretty good. Most importantly Mom has adjusted and now enjoys living there. I would also add the celebrate holidays. For Memorial Day the had a BbQ and music. My mom isn't that mobile but they do have outings to restaurants and other places for the residents

Comfortable
They are very attentive and caring. Not a 5 as I think they could use more help. However mom is happy, eating well and free to wander/roam within the memory care unit. Rooms are sufficient, mom has her single bed, her bureau, her recliner & a little end table and chair, still plenty of room The rooms are vacant, you need to furnish. The plus side to that is familiarity and comfort. When moving someone from a place they know, it's good to fill their room with familiar furnishings and decor.

Lodge at Piner Road
When we left they had activities person leave. Planned movies across the hall from my dad room never happened. My sister had to ask and after living there 4 months they figured how to operate movie so he finally see a movie. Assisted living was not something he could adjust to. My dad was there a total of 8 months. He grew tired of things that bugged him after a time. Menus not posted ahead of time. He got that weekly which made him happy. Excursions to casinos happened right before he left. He wished it could have been earlier. The place was nice just not what he wanted.

My mother in law is no longer at The Lodge. It did not work out for her. There was inadequate staffing for her needs. It is fine for people who are independent though.

Mom's Stay at the Lodge
Food. Attention to detail. My Mom could not use silverware, yet when I came by one day at lunch time she had a bowl of soup in front of her. Quality of care. My Mom fell the first two nights she was there. We had a meeting and decided it was because she had never been in a wheelchair. They promised not to use the wheelchair anymore. About a month later she began falling again. She fell three times and had to go to the hospital for stitches twice. Someone had started putting her back into the wheelchair.

Our Experience
My dad wanted to see a movie in their state of the art home theater. I think it was the first time it was used. They had no idea how to operate sound or lighting had to keep door open. They were not advertising activities properly. Now they are posted daily. As the items frequently change. Due to lack of participation from residents. I do expect things to change but wonder why you have to complain to get improvement.

Beautiful Facility with Great Staff
I love the facility and staff, wish my mother in law would take advantage of what they have to offer. She refuses to get out of bed, hopefully that will change in the future. She gets along well with the staff except for one. I have to ask sometimes to get her laundry done which I think has to do with being short staffed in housekeeping. I would recommend this facility.

Brand new, beautiful facility full of smiles.
The communication between the floor manager and the families need to be much more. They need to be better with laundry service, have lost many pairs of brand new pants and shirts. They keep her bedroom door open all day long, and at least one of the clients comes into my aunts room and lays on her bed!!! Few more things. Don't get a fuzzy feeling from [name removed] the ED. Beautiful facility, good food.

Run!
The facility is new and the staff in the Memory Care is incompetent and has no idea how to deal with difficulty. My husband was there for one week before he unexpectedly died. We were promised over and over that the staff would be able to keep him busy and redirect him if he became difficult and wanted to leave. This was a complete lie; they had no idea what they were doing and each shift would call us to either speak to him on the phone or come down there and speak to him/them. Although I filled out a ton of paperwork explaining who he was and his likes and dislikes, no one read this material and they knew absolutely nothing about him except for he wanted to go home. One evening they lost him (he had wandered into another room and was asleep) even though this is literally one half of a floor and each exit has alarms on the doors. The staff called us in a panic and said that they had left one person in charge on the floor and the other two assistants were out in the parking lot looking for him. It was a horrendous experience, thankfully we only had to deal with this for a week. He was taken from the facility on the 6th day after having suffered a seizure and NO ONE from that facility ever contacted us to express their sympathy

Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about California’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
