Pleased at Auberge Sugarland
So far we are very pleased. The staff is awesome. They are courteous, respectful and caring to residents as well as family. The black uniforms are classy and present a very professional appearance. The rooms are larger than other places we toured and have been updated. The food I have seen served looked like good portions and had an attractive appearance. I like that each individual wing is served in a small dining room and kitchen for residents of only that wing with several caregivers in attendance. It is intimate dining with individual attention instead of one large dining room. The facility is very clean and attractive and secure. Visitors sign in and out and enter through three sets of 3 doors. My husband is receiving a higher level of concern and care than the previous facility offered. Their calendar has a full schedule of activities; however, I usually visit on Sundays and have not observed any activities. Residents are lined up in chairs in front of the TV like a movie theatre and there are no activities going on. They are served a snack in the afternoon. The only thing I am not pleased with is the large rate increase after only one month of residence.

Our family's experience. Caregivers are friendly, well trained & skilled.
Room size is good for 1 person. No kitchenette. Small refrigerator is allowed. I would prefer more caregivers & activities or age-appropriate music, especially after supper. Food is well prepared & served. Some food, such as large entrees, should be cut into bite-size pieces, before serving.

Room size is great- maybe even a little too big but it's great for someone in a wheelchair. Staff is really wonderful- my dad has severe hearing loss and it's very hard to communicate with him but the staff goes the extra mile. The care is outstanding truly. I am actually taking a vacation next week and have zero anxiety about leaving him in their care.

Review for The Auberge at Sugar Land
It presents as a warm and welcoming center beginning at the front door. Refreshments are located in the front foyer. The receptionist must buzz you into center, where you sign in and out. The main greeting and activities room is well arranged with 4 wings and a courtyard for residents. Always clean. Caretakers were respectful and greeted each person with dignity. Each wing had its own dining room with table cloth and real dinnerware. Assistance was given to my husband as he continued his decline. Transportation was provided for medical appts. Veteran's Day activities co- ordinated with the school across the street. Family invited each month to meet with department heads to discuss issues for betterment of their services. The other issue I had was with their billing, told they were switching to a new software.

Cares like family
I can't say enough nice things about Auberge. There wasn't a single person there that didn't seem like they truly cared and they were so good with Mom. Everybody from the staff to the administration gave me a sense that my mother was safe. It was clean, organized, and overall just a good experience.

A positive experience with supportive staff
Majority of staff were very caring. A couple were amazing with my mom. And there were a few that didn't seem suited for that line of work. Food...my mom was on strained food so it wasn't appetizing. Always was clean. The water and snacks for guests. And the space for visitors to sit was very nice. Staff welcomed us when we visited my mom for meals and always actually. Even Custodian. Activities seemed ok. What i observed...songs, staff dancing in front, lots of tv. Sensory activities and perhaps more creative innovative activities and strolls outdoors would've been nice as they didn't seem to take my mom. I wasn't there all the time so maybe they did do that. Not sure. Room was small but adequate for 2 people with dementia, I suppose. Overall id recommend the place, because we did. A friend took her father there.

Very good tour with [name removed]. The facility was very clean. Activities were taking place and appeared to being enjoyed by residents. [name removed] realized that my wife was having a difficult time with the tour. However, if we had to choose a place for my wife, Auberge would be the place.

1. Resident to caregiver ratio is great 2. I was able to have cell numbers of the director, head nurse, David (in charge of caregivers) and have actually needed to call them on occasion after hours and my calls have been answered and concerns addressed 3. Our loved one had a mini stroke at night after hours and we got a phone call so we could meet ambulance at hospital (it's 3-5 min away from Auberge) 4. We've had multiple lunches in private dining room-they clean up 5. It is "single level" which makes it very easy for residents to get around 6. Residents are not locked in their room at night. They are free to walk for a bid and are supervised It's like being in your room at home and getting up to go to the family room The building is secure. PS: They invite family members to participate in activities like Mother's Day, Easter Day egg hunt and lunch, etc

Highly recommend, good care and attention to residents, staff cares & listens, clean environment
Staff is professional, courteous and approachable. The facility is clean and well maintained. There is a lot of natural light that brightens up the place. The menu is well balanced and the servings are more than adequate. The rooms are spacious, have a very home like feeling and are kept clean. The bathrooms are well designed. The residents seem to enjoy the activities. The employees make it fun for them. Overall, this facility has employees who seem to genuinely like their jobs, display positive attitudes and have the common goal of treating residents and visitors with respect and kindness. I am also pleased at how clean and well maintained the common areas are along with the individual rooms.

Review for The Auberge at Sugar Land
The place was the cleanest I've ever seen. Building setting was extremely nice. There were 4 wings of I think it was 10 rooms each. Residents of each wing ate in a dining room together. Room was very adequate. Laundry was marked by staff who were exceptional in making sure cleaned items got back to owner. Staff very nice and accommodating. Mother was in wing with mostly people of very limited mobility and and virtually no conversation. Mom was 99 and had gone there after a couple of weeks in the hospital. I often saw the staff interact with a much younger woman who had memory problems and they were very caring. Her food had to be ground to keep her from choking so I can't really evaluate it. Staff was good at getting her out of bed and dressed for meals down the hall while she could do it but eventually she just stopped eating and was totally bedridden before dying. It seemed that activities were rather limited but that could just have been that mom had gotten so much worse. They did have Hospice rep that gave me regular updates.

Great staff…Rude/poor administrator
The staff is great and does a good job. Most staff were trained by a previous admin. The new administrator is very rude with a bad attitude. She is loud and talks over a person in a condescending manner. She does retaliate when she has an issue with someone including resident’s family members. If you over look how she treats family that has questions her leadership, it’s a good place to dementia care.

Great communication
Our family member wanders at night but they are memory care only and locked down so he can leave his room and walk the common area for a while just like home-he's not locked in his room at night-duty care givers are always checking on him. I can call them anytime 24/7 and get someone The nurse, [name removed] is very knowledgeable and staff was very responsive twice when our family member had to be taken to hospital I also like the layout One level with two outside patios

Our family's thoughts on Auberge
Auberge is an excellent facility. Meals are served in a dining room environment on linen tablecloths; water or juice served in stemmed glasses. Besides programs or movies on tv, there are always other activities- bingo, coloring, puzzles, etc. they have outside areas with seating, golf, etc. inside there is a pool table plus newspapers and magazines for those that have enjoyed reading most of their lives. They also have afternoon snacks of crackers, cheese, fruits. Attendants know visitors (maybe not by name but by resident "[name removed] sister"). I am very pleased with facilities and staff.

Thumbs Up For The Auberge!
Overall, we are extremely pleased with the Auberge. My mother-in-law is very happy and comfortable living there. The staff is very friendly. The food looks very good. We see them cleaning the facility and delivering laundry to the residents frequently. We visit every week. We sleep well at night knowing our loved one is living at the Auberge in Sugar Land.

Very kind! They helped us through a difficult process.
The care givers are all kind and thoughtful. The management is present and proactive. Very clean. Food is good, very tasty and good quality. My mom is happy and has found a little group of people who have become her friends. My mom is very happy with the roommate the staff chose for her. She enjoys the activities and appreciates that she is able to decline participation when she wants.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Texas’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Texas’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
