Our family's experience is grateful toward Addison.
My loved one at times complains of the food and she hears staff are unhappy with the chef. Some staff have quit bc of him, she was told. She was pleased with the activity director who may be away. I think she would say the overall value is ok. We live in Michigan so not there to observe.

Caring But Not Always Competent
We have had significant issues the past [date removed]. The intake provider did a terrible job!! Put in the record that he has medical issues that he does NOT have. We want a new intake evaluation completed that's accurate!! The intake Dr started him back on medication we had worked hard to wean him off. He was sent by ambulance and DID NOT tell us!! We found out when the hospital ER called my husband. I'm not pleased. It's absolutely TERRIBLE food!! Many suppers are so small such as a plain hotdog with a cold bun. Food is so unappetizing sometimes my FIL wont eat anything. I recognize most patients are on special diets “low salt” or “diabetic”, but that does NOT totally tasteless. Its such horrible food! We are happy [name removed] is at The Addison. The cleaners, tech and medic crew are very, very nice. They're always willing to help. [name removed]( admissions) & [name removed]( facility manager of The Addison ) are excellent. [name removed]( Director of Nursing) ?? is not proactive and does not follow or understand the nursing guidelines of the Addison.) This is why I rate the overall as a 3!

Nice People, Poor Practices and Follow Through
After completing their due diligence interviews my 90 year mother-in-law following a hip injury, surgery and rehabilitation, Addison agreed to letting us place her in their care. Less than 48 hours later they told us they needed to kick her out for a bed sore wound she got in the Hospital, stating it was not legal to have a resident with a Stage 3+ wound, though they had supposedly checked the wound before accepting her. They gave us a month to find a new home. Meanwhile external wound care nurses came into the facility to treat the wound to near complete healing, but we were forced to move her none the less. So, nice enough people and facility, but low integrity and accountability. A poor choice!

The Addison of Knightdale
Our experience at The Addison of Knightdale overall was not good. The workers/caregivers were excellent and the food was good and nutritious. However the facility management was far less than adequate. My loved one needed to be seen by the facility doctor but the director of nursing told me “we cannot get a doctor here on his day off, but YOU can do whatever you need to do”. Within 48 hours my loved one was admitted to the hospital with an infected wound that had not been properly cared for by The Addison. From the executive director down to the nursing director, their demeanor and flippant attitudes were apparent every time I visited. The worst person was the financial director. These women are unprofessional and treat families very poorly. My rating for the staff is for the workers in the memory care unit and the activities director only. I would not recommend The Addison of Knightdale to anyone and actually I do not think I will ever use A Place For Mom again either!

I think she would say the overall value is ok. We live in Michigan so not there to observe. When she got sick we came from Michigan for a month to get her set up. She chose Addison among a few assisted liv places because her church and friends are near it. But the church has not been active with her. Everything we know now about Addison is from her, a friend and the church deacon. We are overall quite pleased with Addison and she is adjusting well! (Except she still hopes to get her own apartment, which my husband thinks is much too risky for her.) The Addison staff keeps a good watch on her health .

Our experience
They are difficult to communicate with. Many times they do not answer the phone during business hours. Messages left, do not get returned. Sometimes we have to just go there to talk to somebody. We are overall satisfied. I think the Addison suits our Aunt pretty well.

Family overall pleased
The dining experience has been great because she enjoys the people at her table and it's helping her settle in and seems to be cheering her up. With the activities she was encouraged by the art teacher noticing her ability ( she was an art major in college). When it comes to the value it is hard to say bc I'm not closely aware of other such assisted living. Overall my husbands ( her brother) and I are pleased by her beginning to cheer up and open up to people and activities. The director has been helpful. Our loved one is a bit disappointed in the food's sameness every day ( eggs and bacon or same cereal each day)but it's great she has a diet low in salt. One other note- you've gotten her to hospital and Dr's in emergency. Glad of that. Overall we're pleased.

Started well
My loved one was a resident at The Addison of Knightdale. They had a change in management that had an adverse effect on my opinion of the facility. When my loved one first went there, I found that management and staff very caring. There was a total change of staff and management and we had nothing but problems. They were not giving her the proper medication and they antagonize her and complained about her behavior and eventually put her out. She went to another facility and has had no problems. I found the new director to be dishonest, doing everything she could to take our money and put my loved one out. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. It was truly a bad experience.

She is Happier than She has been in Years
They seem to do well on the things that are listed above. My only complaint would be the communication. They are often hard to get in person and don't call back very well. I would recommend the facility depending on what you need. I think a family that is more "needy" might night find The Addison attentive enough. We are not a micromanaging type family and are not easily discouraged. People have differing levels of expectation.

Play the game that you're saying
There weres a lot of inconcistencies. The receptionist was arrogant. Some people very personable and some were not. My loved one was left alone for a long period time, and ended up outside. There was lack of communication, with the head nurse, who did did not explain things, when a psych evaluation was needed. There was a time, in which they would not release my loved ones medication. Sometimes they would let, patients sleep instead of having a routine and they would miss a meal. The residents go outside sometimes to the garden ,watch TV, or do puzzles but there was no real interaction with the residents. No one is really watching them.

Needs Great Improvement
This community lacked professionalism. Turned out to be non professional and things did not go well with the community in the memory care department. I am not sure about the assisted living. The building is not bad but could use some renovations. The administrative staff are the issue and this needs to be changed for anything to be fixed. The food was also not good.

My experience with Addison
This community is okay for your loved one. This is my first experience dealing with a community. Currently they do not have activities due to covid and quarantine. My loved one is really happy with the meals. They do not require that the residents be vaccinated but they are having all of the employees be vaccinated due to a recent outbreak.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the North Carolina regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about North Carolina regulations for Assisted Living.
