The best move I’ve ever made
The staff here at Bonaventure have been very kind to me. There are lots of activities. it was challenging to have to move out of my apartment, I don’t regret it at all. They have retirement, assisted-living, and memory care. So if I become ill, I can get the help I need right in my own apartment. I’m enjoying meeting new people. And I try to make others feel at home. My only challenge right now is the food which is not very good. I’m doing most of my own cooking which I like to do anyway.

I would say I think it's a nice place and yes I would recommend to others. They need to fix some problems with maintenance, the supervisor is fine but they need more experienced and organized people below him.

A nice, older community with room for improvements.
When it comes to the activities, there is not enough activities in Assisted Living that aren't memory or brain focused, such as arts and crafts, gardening, flower arrangement, basic baking classes, daily physical activities, etc. For the value for cost it is a 4 overall. 5 if in assisted living and don't need much help or assistance.

Examples of lifestyle and changes.
My rent for 2 bedroom apartment is going from[removed]. I am not happy about that. Almost 400 a month increase. We are short staffed on kitchen and servers frequently. But staff is friendly and most residents are friendly too. I would like to see a weekly church service available. We had a once a month pastor come in, but now he is not coming. It is sad as many here cannot drive any more and don't care for just watching a service on line. We have a bus and Bonaventure advertised having transportation to local churches but it doesn't happen. We're oftentimes short of a bus driver. That is also difficult for those with doctor appointments. We have meetings to address problems but the solutions are limited. I am sorry to report anything negative but it is happening. I really like Bonaventure on the whole. I like my apartment. Our housekeeping staff are great. Our chef is excellent when he is here. It's just the substitute cooks that appear to not be trained very well. The kitchen and dining room staffing problems I hear are happening at other facilities too. I guess it is hard to keep staff when wages are low or hours are only part time.

My loved one was previously a resident at North Creek for a brief time. North Creek was a beautiful place and the staff were very friendly. However, assisted Living did not work out for my loved one, I ended up having to bring him back home.

We're having trouble with them, continuing to bill us even after she moved out. There are not enough staff at the facility, and it is not particularly clean. Their book-keeping is slow and incorrect from time to time. I do not recommend North Creek.

Our Experience
As with most places, they could use more help. Meal servers need more training. Also, the food is not good and prepared poorly. They put mayo on everything, even a grilled cheese. If you don't want mayo you have to be sure to tell the server. Food comes not warm. They often char the hamburgers, as in, burned. The other night my husband received a burned on top dinner roll. The staff here is great; very kind and helpful. They have lots of good activities. Recommend them? Probably not.

Good facility with much potential. Working on improvements.
The location and friendliness is great. Staff help needs to increase. They don't have enough people to do the jobs needed. Food service is very slow and food is not hot. They do not offer the activities advertised due to lack of staffing. Staff may not be fully trained in all areas since different answers are given depending on who you talk to.

With the overall experience, we sometimes do not get responses to questions. For the car services that is unknown, we have not started the care really. For our loved one mom said the meals were good. They got a new chef, but at the moment the meals are not so good. Lots of activities lacking in areas.

Loving Staff; short stay; would recommend
A very nice facility, but there was a slight turnover of management for the short time that we were here. The staff was very caring. I know they were short staffed. I was surprised how much turn over in staff in the short time we were there. Food was cold when it came out. The service was also slow. Variety of meals was nice. It is definitely pricey. It is sad how much these places charge our elderly.

North Creek review
The overall experience so far has been excellent. The cleanliness of the community is very good and the friendliness of the staff members are excellent. The quality of care services provided is very good, and the meals and dining service is good. Our loved one is unable to feed herself or get up so she is read to and assisted in eating. The memory care takes more patience and caring for than the overall general residents. And the care taker staff and general staff is among the best I have experienced. I have had experience with three other facilities in the pass one where my mother was in and one I regularly visited in my high school days

Not professional all the way around
We toured North Creek during our search for a Memory Care facility for our loved one. It was disorganized. The staff didn't know the residents. It didn't seem super clean. Our tour guide's appearance wasn't a great impression for an older age group of family members to be working with. I told them multiple times that it wasn't the right fit, but kept getting texts and calls from them anyway.

Overall, has it worked out for my mom, yes. Has it been everything she was promised, no.
What we really like is the the close proximity to child's house, that is number 1, but the areas they could improve on would be communication, safety, and the food. Sadly, I don't think we would recommend this community to other families. The previous management/sales group has failed to live up to promises it made for my mom prior to her moving in. My mom was also hurt while on property, slipped on ice when walking outside. No signs, no attempt to remove the ice, no apology, and no checking in to see how my mom is recovering.

North Creek Experience
The staff are all wonderful, and I fully understand that this is a business. However, as much as I care for the staff (and they are all wonderful), I care for / about my Mom first and foremost. My Mom has gone for 4 hours on several occasions with no change of underwear. I have come in to visit her and found her smelling of poop and urine on several occasions (it would seem statistically unlikely that I only showed up on the rare occasion that these things occurred) and asked the staff to change her, whereupon they commented "this really needed changing". I don't suspect she poops or pees more than most. The shower water is cold. So much so that it's a complaint I've heard from other residents, none of whom are either competent mentally to complain about it, or emotionally desirous of rocking the boat. That makes me sad because, these are the very people who we should be looking for problems for before they are reported so these folks can have a spectacular last few years. I understand why this might be: (people burning themselves with hot water when staff isn't around). Another 5 - 8 degrees shouldn't be a liability. These folks aren't products. Somehow, we need to bridge the gap between resident, and cost control, because truly, the most important thing in this equation is always the resident. We can't just say it. I have heard reports that some staff (not all, and certainly not most) are abrupt and rough with these folks. Again, I understand this is a business, these staff are tired and, frankly, doing an insanely difficult job. I couldn't do it. I truly can't think of a harder job on the entire planet and I'm beyond thankful for the ones who do it. I don't believe these events are intentional, and I also know that in Memory Care, every small slight is magnified and some, frankly, are manufactured in the resident's minds. Some, however, are not. It's the ones that are not that I'm focused on. Some of that occurs due to certain personalities that may need a check, some comes from huuuuuge demands put on them for what is ultimately a completely thankless job (indeed, one that staff actually gets abused for). I don't know the solution for this (perhaps more / additional staff), I just know that for practical purposes, these residents are essentially imprisoned. Some of them know that but have no way out of what for them is a nightmare (dementia, age, failing bodies, etc.), some are blissfully unaware, but imprisoned nonetheless. I think it's a fine place. The residents are (mostly) fun to talk to, warm, fascinating and always full of surprises. I think overall (8% of the time), the staff tries exceptionally hard to do an excellent job but, some are stifled by the demand, while others can be stifled by other staff. Not one single job in this facility is easy, and that includes management, and oversight. I applaud them all, honest. I can fix parking lots, I can invent stuff that improves lives and get it / them patented across the globe, but running a facility such as this one....is waaaaaaaaay beyond my pay grade. I don't think I have a better way, nor do I think my ideas are better. I do however, think there is room for substantial improvement. Because, no matter what any other resident has to say....it is all about my Mom. That's what's important to me.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The community is very friendly; however, they are short staffed and has a huge staff turnover issue. The food is terrible, and is coming out of a can! It is inedible. The family is providing food to our loved one, because the food offered at the community is our my loved one ill. The housekeeping was supposed to be done weekly, and my loved one was lucky to get 4 times out of the last 7 months. We aren't getting what we were promised and they are not fulfilling the services as promised. In addition, we don't feel we are getting the services that we are paying for monthly. We have been informed by staff that they are sent to different communities and some staff have to travel over 50 miles to get to a location to assist the residents. The apartment my loved one has is beautiful, but it is rarely clean.

Great Facility and Would Recommend
The staff is very nice and friendly. They are also accommodating to the residents and their families. The community offers different activities like bingo, trivia, paint and sips, they do socials like celebrations for the veterans Oktoberfest and they have scavengers hunt and so many more activities for the residents to do to keep busy.

I've made some good friends here and finally feeling settled in. Personally, I've had no problems or complaints. I'm very pleased with my apartment. Staffing has been an issue, turnover has been high. But I know that's everywhere right now, in every industry. The food is good quality and variety. They offer a daily special, which is a well balanced meal. Housekeeping overall is really good. The only concern I have is the laundry room, the floor needs cleaned. I would recommend them to family and friends.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Washington regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Washington regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored North Creek 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
