About the facility
New City Supportive Living

New City Supportive Living brings affordable senior living in what used to be a historic landmark in Chicago, Illinois. Previously a Goldblatt’s Department Store, the community now brings assisted living to seniors 65+. With downtown Chicago less than 10 miles from the community, there are a variety of activities nearby like beaches, museums, shopping, and restaurants.

On warm days, relax on the rooftop terrace while soaking up the sun. Feel the warmth from the fireplace in the cozy lobby. Seniors can maintain physical well-being in the exercise room. Then, they can pamper themselves to a day at the on-site beauty salon. Without leaving the community seniors have access to items they may need at the on-site general store.

Certified caregivers provide round-the-clock care to seniors. Two hospitals are nearby the community with the closest being within 5 miles. Beyond that, feel at ease knowing your loved one has access to an on-site medical clinic. Additionally, the community is secured around the clock. Residents have living options of studio, one-, or two-bedroom apartments. Each includes a kitchenette and an alert system in case of emergencies. Medicaid may be accepted. With pops of color throughout the community, live among the charming ambience of New...

A case of “ you can’t judge a book by its cover.” The area is on a culdesac close to a busy retail area. The Supportive facility ‘s exterior (housed in the historic old Goldblatt building) is unremarkable. However the interior is lovely and ADA compliant . Everything was beautiful and the only area I felt needed Developement was the rooftop area where I’d wanted to see more greenery since there isn’t an outdoor garden. That said, my standard for not putting my parents anywhere I wouldn’t live were met. [Name removed] the Director of Marketing was excellent, residents know and chat with her. I saw a diverse population of residents playing cards. I also encountered a couple of women who provide wellness programs exiting that had good things to say. My ONLY concern is how long my mom could stay there given her memory issues. My sister and I acknowledge that one day her needs may have them live apart.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Illinois regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Illinois regulations for Assisted Living.
