My Experience with Morningside House of St. Charles
I am happy to write a review for Morningside House of St. Charles because it is a warm and friendly community. It is well staffed and efficiently run. The residents were eager to welcome my 95 year old mother when she arrived. They openly tried to make her feel comfortable coming into the facility. The staff is professional but also warm and caring. I am so pleased that I was referred to this facility. I toured six and I chose this one. It is always clean and they don't isolate the residents with Dementia from the other residents. They keep them involved with each other. I would highly recommend Morhingside House of St Charles.

A comfortable community for Mom.
Morningside is a local assisted living community. The residents are cared for with patience, kindness, tasty healthy meals, fun activities that provoke conversation, brain mind games, physical activity and friendships. The staff is always smiling and kind. Our family feels comfort knowing Mom is in great care, safe and happy as we go to our jobs, visit her as a resident in Morningside or take her outside of the residency.

Morningside House Review
MH will have their doctor evaluated you loved one prior to accepting them. Of course, this is said to be in the best interest of their care (which it should be), but there is another insidious reason which takes some explaining.
Part of entering MH, you have to pay a "community fee" of $[removed], it may be more now. This fee is refundable on a pro rated basis is your loved one "leaves" MH within 6 months of moving in...at least that's the duration I remember. Here's the catch: If they give you a discount on this fee, the refund clause is null and void. They do not tell you this.
My mother was admitted and was given a discount on this fee. She died within weeks of admission. It seems that their doctor knew she didn't have a chance of making 6 months (more on this later) and MH decided that they wanted to bank on that, hence the "discount".
Upon her demise, I was told to take all the time to move her stuff out. Of course, this is because they pro rate the refund on the final month's "rent" based on the move out date. So take all the time you want because you are paying for every day her stuff sits in MH. So they are preying on the grieving family members wanting to take time to deal with the death of their loved one knowing that it reduces their refund.
Also know that there are several items that will add to your monthly bill, such as pharmacy services. My experience was that they continued the pharmacy service after my mother was removed from MH and moved to the hospital where she spend the last two weeks of her life and eventually died AND even billed for such after her death. She was receiving all the drugs she needed from the hospital and she certainly did not need any after she died. MH was aware of all of this, yet the pharmacy charges were not stopped. It took me months to claw back those charges.
As for the facility, etc., my mother hated the food (said it was weird) and I even got to experience their so-called lunch...baloney and white bread, about the cheapest thing they could find. We tried to get phone service to her room and never could make that happen...something with the facility, not the phone company. And their in-house physician, Dr. [name removed], needs a few lessons on bed-side manner. The first words out of his mouth when I met him and asked about his evaluation of my mother were, "She's a mess." WTF? He then blathered on about all her issues and more or less let me know that there was no hope for her. Nice guy.
The only thing good I can say is that the staff, other than Dr [name removed], was very nice.
I would recommend that you avoid this facility, but in Charles County your options are very limited and there are a lot of people working the system by putting elderly in their basement and calling it assisted living. The whole experience was a nightmare

I can't tell you how pleased we were to have you recommend this to us they were delightful from the moment we walked in till we made the decision that day to have Mother live there. Best decision we made for her she has been happier & thriving since going there 2 months ago. [name removed] director couldn't have been more informative & straightforward with answers. The whole Staff are pleasant & happy to work there. It's a woman run company plus each Morningside House is directed by a woman. You feel the compassion & care, not the bottom line...Even better they have a policy that if you recommend someone to them and they come and stay there you get $[removed] off your next care payment honestly who does that, only people who really care!!

I would put my dad in Morningside again. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They keep me informed about any issues or medical problems. We picked this community because, of the cleanliness, price and it was closer to where I live. There were others closer but they were not clean or the price was much higher.

Lowest cost w/ Good service
Situation: 71 year old mom had a stroke resulting in need for PT and help getting in/out of bed.
This facility is 100% private care which means all out of pocket.
Whats good:
1. Lowest room rent cost of the 5 places I looked @ $3500/month
2. Staff attitude is above average
3. Food is above average
4. Facility activities above average
5. Location has many services nearby
Whats bad:
1. low transparency on in-house Dr and RX bill is facility provided
2. Rates just hiked 8%-10% for year 2023.
3. Vax authorization form lacks non-mRNA vax option.
4. No internet/phone competition - only Comcast
5. Room cost. 10x10foot room w/ shared bathroom is $3500/month

A Good Place for Mom
We have been very happy with Morningside House. Mom was very hesitant to go in there originally, but she has gotten very comfortable very quickly. She feels a part of things and has made a lot of friends. The staff are friendly. And people seem to really care about her. It has been a very good experience.

A fresh look at Morning House of St Charles
Morningside has changed management recently. Because of that, they are now back to rebuilding their staffing and the care that's offered to the residents. I believe once new management is up and running, I would be able to rate them 5's all the way across the board. When I have concerns, they are apologetic and assure me that they will implement action to make improvements.

Our families experience
The care and administration is where it falls apart. The doctor at the community has absolutely no bedside manners. There is no transparency at all, they would benefit sharing with the families who is in charge or who and in charge of what. When our loved one was at the hospital they did not think to stop the auto-refill of their prescriptions so after they had passed we now have to track down with the pills went and deal with the insurance and it has been a nightmare. They could of temporarily suspended the medication refill while our loved one was away at the hospital. It just seems like there is some deception going on there. The food was terrible and very disappointing - it was weird basic cheap quality that was average at best.
