Horrible staff
The 1st shift Med Tech [name removed] is rude went to ask her about a med change with my family member trying to figure out what was the drastic change and she ignored me to my face, some of the girls are nice others need to find a new job, it’s a few girls I loved but management has since ran them out the building along with their amazing nurse, the food I would rate a 1 needs MUCH improvement my family member is always saying she hope they don’t serve her cold food that’s ridiculous for the amount that facility charges us, clothes comes up missing her items has came up missing and still no one has been able to tell us anything HORRIBLE PLACE.

Poor experience
My list of complaints for my loved one is about three pages long. It took more than 11 days to get her medication’s right. Every week I have to monitor whether they’re picking up her laundry or not. Sometimes it goes for two weeks. She’s been sick for three days and no one has done a thing for her. Why do I have to be the intermediary when I’m paying close to $[removed]a month for her? What if I lived in Timbuktu and couldn’t get there to see her? This has been a nightmare. Little response. Med tech hanging up on me. No Director for weeks. No one really seems to care about the resident. I get angry. They knew she was sick three days ago and here I am calling again today to get some help for her. Two other alternatives, and three rivers however, they don’t appear to be any better. I like the facility, and the activities. But the rest has been a total nightmare.

Care is subpar and unacceptable
We picked this community, because the location played the biggest role and that they had an immediate opening. Our first two choices in the three rivers area were full. The staff was friendly, but the care was awful. There was no attempt to make anything right or even an explanation for why things were the way they were. They were not brushing my mother's teeth or dentures, it had beenalomst two weeks, and no laundry was done, and they were putting her to bed at night in dirty clothes instead of changing into a nightgown.

a nice community with some improvement
Bowman Place is a really nice facility as far as the cleanliness, but just like everyone else they are struggling with staff and could use more help. We do think the med techs could use a little more training for those who have diabetes and when it comes to the meals they could have more options for those that need restricted meals.

Loving Care
We have been generally happy with the facility. It would be nice if they had, more activites for adult males. It is very expensive. We picked this community because, it was closer to other family members, it was more secure, a smaller communty,we liked the services offered, along with the location.

Adequate staffing is an issue - 4 or 5 different directors in the past 3 1/2 years - aides, cooks and housekeepers come and go quickly as well as the nurse / care managers! Inadequate pay? Lack of continuity of care / service - we expected better for the price and based on marketing.

Pretty Good for Three Rivers, Overall It's Nothing to Get Excited About
I am not impressed with the caregivers that take care of the residents. The food is horrible. My loved one says it is too small of portions. The residents had a salad and a muffin for dinner one night. The administrative team is okay to work with.

In my opinion, I don't feel they care for the residence as much as they need to. The communication is ok when I ask but they don't proactively reach out. I would not recommend this community unless the loved one is totally independent.

Keep on looking
My mom was a resident of Bowman Place for three years, and overall I was happy with her care, most particularly the aides. They were always friendly to mom, and she enjoyed interacting with them. Things changes dramatically the last three months of her stay there. One of the things that I noticed from the get go was the large turnover of Executive Directors, and nursing staff. There is certainly a rotating door when it comes to keeping administrative, nursing, and support staff. This kind of turnover speaks volumes for the work environment and culture. During the last three months of mom's stay there, her dementia worsened. I knew this of course, and called daily to speak to an aide to see how she was doing that particular day. Not once in that three month period did the house nurse call me to express any concerns regarding mom. Furthermore, she failed to coordinate with mom's physician which was part of the care plan that mom paid for monthly. In fairness to the aides, it should be noted that they did call in reports to the doctor when necessary. Many of moms dementia issues could have been resolved had she been referred to Bronson Paw Paw Neuro Unit as had been suggested a number of times but the nurse NEVER once mentioned that option to me nor did she tell me there are two in house psychiatrists who could have evaluated mom. This serious communication failure on the nurses part eventually led to serious behavioral issues for my mom, and an eventual elopement. Since that time, mom has been sent to Bronson Paw Paw where a medication review was done and mom's behavioral issues have disappeared. She has since been moved to a secure facility. This experience has been very painful, stressful and heartbreaking. It breaks my heart that my mom suffered so when there was so much that could have and should have been done for her. If the nurse had advised me of the other treatment options, my mom most likely would still be at Bowman. Another issue of concern is lack of adherence to their own policies. One time, the kitchen staff did not lock the kitchen doors (which they are supposed to do), and mom walked right out the door and into the woods behind Bowman, 911 was called and mom was eventually located both cold and confused. The aide on duty suggested that mom opened the unlocked door with a butter knife when in fact they did not lock it as required. My mom probably doesn't even know how to use a butter knife much less pry a lock open with one!!!!! Another incident occurred when a resident stood in the hallway across from my moms room nearly naked calling for help. No one came, and after about 10 minutes of pushing the call button, I finally located all the aides in the kitchen listening to a very loud radio and having a great time while this poor confused woman was crying and yelling for help! Since there in no one of authority on second and third shifts, I shudder to think of other things that have happened that I don't know about. A recent facebook post from a former employee suggested abuse as well. If you would like to see that post, please contact me at [removed] as I have taken a screen shot of her comments. All in all, if you are looking for a place for a loved one, I can only suggest that you keep on looking. There are many other options out there.

Cheri - we appreciate your feedback, and we take it very seriously. We apologize for any miscommunication regarding your mother's primary doctor. We conducted an investigation on the kitchen doors and held additional trainings with our staff to resolve this. We're very saddened that you are disappointed with your experience here and we encourage you to call our Enlivant Cares line or the community directly if you have anymore questions or concerns. Thank you.

High Volume Community!!
The community was clean there are no complaints. My father desired space from the caregivers during certain times of the day. The staff tried for my father to engage in activities but was not being given the necessary space he needed. The community noise level was getting really intense. I really liked that once i spoke with the activity director he did address this issue.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Michigan regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Michigan regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored LakeHouse Three Rivers 6.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
