We pride ourselves on providing the best care that an assisted living board & care home can provide. We could have not possibly stayed in business for over 13 years with excellent reviews on all platforms, if we are as you have described us! You had always raved about our excellent service and how well your mother was taken care of; we have all the text messages to prove it from the first week your mother moved into Karo Mina until we gave you the 30 day notice. In fact we consulted with the State of CA Department of Social Services and they recommended to give your mother a 30 day notice, based on everything that we are about to say; we provided them with proof. But first, I would like to remind you that your mother was at 2 communities before arriving at Karo Mina and as you said, she was with us for 2 months then moved to a 4th community; all 4 communities within 1 year. She was at the community before Karo Mina for 2 weeks only! When your mother came to Karo Mina, she had been on hospice for almost a year and due to the excellent care we provided, she was taken off hospice after 1 month of being with us. Your mother's toe nails were almost 2 inches long when she came to us and we had asked you several times from day 1 to hire a podiatrist to take care of them but you said many times that you will not pay $200 out of your own pocket, and you will find out if Kaiser will cover the expense instead of paying out of pocket. Toe nails grow on average about 1.62 mm (0.06 inches) per month but this growth rate is much slower in elderly people. This means that your mother's toe nails had not been cut for over a year and could had not possibly grown almost 2 inches during the 2 months she was at Karo Mina, not even a quarter inch. You consistently failed to provide her medication on timely manner, such as being a week late on providing her antibiotics. You consistently blamed her doctor for failing to provide updated doctor's reports (for a month), prescription medications, and always had an excuse for not signing any necessary paperwork. You refused to give us a copy of your mother's insurance card and ID for emergencies. Our contract clearly states Karo Mina Care Home rules and visitation hours. When you came to visit your mother in [date removed], it was about 15 minutes after visitation hours and your mother was sleeping. Typically when a resident is sleeping, we turn off their TV and adjust the lighting to allow them to rest. You went into your mother's room with your fiancé, woke your mother up, yelled at me, “how come her TV is off" and you were extremely rude & condescending. In addition to all that, you treated me and the staff with disrespect and a condescending tone. All of the above may explain why your mother moved to 4 different communities within a year. We decided that it was not going to work out and to give your mother a 30 day notice to move out, after we had consulted with the State of CA as mentioned before. You were extremely upset because you knew that your mother was very well cared for and you were going to have to move her again, for the 4th time. You asked us to send the new community her old, outdated doctor's report from when she was on hospice, which is illegal, and you got angry when we refused. You threatened us and also said "I Promise that the last laugh will be on you". We have all text messages between you and Karo Mina Staff with all the information mentioned in this response.

Greg, thank you for your review despite the short time your mother spent at our facility. My prayers goes to you for your loss. However, I'm disappointed that your review did not mention all the facts accurately. Your mother only stayed at our facility for 2 and half days; she moved on 12/13/2016 and left on 12/15/2016. Your mother was between hospitals and rehab for almost 4 months before she came to Karo Mina for the same condition she died from. When I first went to visit her at rehab for an assessment of her condition, I had recommended moving your mother to hospice but you refused. Even rehab recommended the same but you insisted on placing her at an assisted living facility. Since I have over 15 years experience caring for seniors including 14 years working with hospice, I agreed to care for your mother. On the day your mother moved to Karo Mina, December 13th, she had stomach aches due to the same condition she had been suffering from. She could not eat and was only able to take liquids such as ensure, soup or very light oatmeal. We spoke on the phone and you informed me that a nurse will come see your mother the next day. On Wednesday, December 14th the nurse didn't show up. Your mother continued to have the same stomach aches when she ate but they were never painful enough to take her to the emergency room. You came to Karo Mina to see your mother on the evening of Wednesday, December 14th and I mentioned to you that the nurse hasn't come yet. You were upset at her insurance services and said a nurse should have come to see her already. You actually thanked me for caring for your mother then left. In the morning of Thursday, December 15th, your mother seemed to have less pain and I even sent you a picture of her in a text massage after she finished her lunch and you responded back "Awesome". In the afternoon, your mother started having the same aches and asked to lay down. During that time a nurse finally arrived and your mother woke up with the same stomach aches. The nurse performed a few tests on your mother and decided to transfer her to the hospital. Your mother spent Thursday night there and passed away on Friday, December 16th. Greg, I'm even more disappointed that you mentioned "money" at the end of your review despite the fact that you did not pay me for your mother's stay until 9 days after she had passed away. Typically, a deposit is required before a resident moves in but I was flexible with you due to the circumstances.
