Very nice community with exceptional care
The room was very spacious and nicely furnished. My Dad was there for 2 weeks for respite care. He enjoyed the staff, the food, and his room. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

A cozy place
When arriving at discovery village we waited 30 minutes before the sales manager arrived. The facility was very clean and the tour did not disappoint. Even though we don’t choose Discovery Village in the end it would be the perfect place for someone seeking independent living while having an all inclusive opportunity relieving you from the worry of bill changes.

Review for Discovery Village Stone Oak
Overall service has been good. She has not been very pleased with the quality of the meals but probably her biggest issue was that her apartment was not very clean when we moved in.

This facility makes sure everyone feels special. I have been in business since 1968 and have never seen a staff ( from management) and all other employees as caring and helpful. Always greets you by your name when come in contact with them.

Choose your facility wisely........
There seemed to be a shortage of caregivers quite often. The med-tech was often shared between communities so medication was rarely given on time - morning meds were often given at lunch or later. (No consistency from day to day) Patient was moved to memory care and the ratio was supposed to be more caregivers/patients - but was not the case. In a community of 6-7 patients (Memory care) - there were times when there was only one caregiver. There were many times I had to perform the basic duties, including getting him to the bathroom, get water or food, take outside. I ended up installing a camera in his room and observed caregiver behavior I was not pleased with. They seemed lax about overall care since Hospice was coming in on a regular basis - so things they should have been doing were being taken care of by Hospice. There were certain caregivers that went totally above and beyond. You could tell they really cared and wanted to do their best for the patients. The directors were always very pleasant and listened when I had concerns.

Their ratio of care giver to clients is low. They need more aids. Other than that all has been pretty good. People are friendly for the most part.

Dad feels safe and happy.
He feels comfortable and safe there. Having more interaction when they first move there would be very helpful and it was lacking. He has been there three months and he still doesn't feel comfortable going to church services which used to be a main focus in his life. He's very complementary of the restaurant and the food.

A lovely community to live in
Overall, Discovery Village is a nice facility. If you're a resident seeking to activate long term care insurance for assisted living, do not trust that the administrative staff will go above and beyond in communicating directly with the insurance company; you'll need to follow up with both the insurance company as well as Discover Village staff to insure your claim is being completely handled. Knowing this upfront would save the resident in this type of situation a lot of grief and money.

Room for improvement
The cost went up pretty significantly. Dining room has trouble keeping a vendor. Kitchen staff and meal routines change frequently. They have been short staffed quite a bit, having to hire temporary staff to fill in, or just being short. The staff they have is very good. It's the turnover that is the problem.

Beautiful care plan
I read wonderful reviews for Franklin Park. When I decided on Franklin memory care for my husband. I was given a beautiful care plan. A plan for the care they could and would provide. When I saw what was not happening I ask caregiver why. Their reply was Management tells family’s what they think you want to hear.

Excellent, caring, facility and staff; extremely good at communicating with the family.
Like every new home, it took my wife a week or 2-3 to adjust to new surroundings and new staff. TPC handled it very well and helped her settle in. She was only there about six months before her sudden death, but I think she was really well cared for and treated extremely well. She could be very difficult, but they handled her well and were extremely good at communicating with me.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Texas’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Texas’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

A Place for Mom has scored Franklin Park TPC Parkway 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
