mom is happy and comfortable
We are pleased with the place for my mom for the most part and. She is happy and comfortable. She is in independent care and I did not mark the quality of care, but for the care she gets and maintenance staff and the use of the nurse it would be 5 points. Lots of remodeling and changes in management has been a bit disruptive. Therefore, communication has not always been forthcoming. Overall the staff is fantastic and her room is comfortable and she has what she needs in activities.

Another Management- Further Decline
Elance is an archaic verb that means "to throw or to launch" This facility has the knack of throwing its residents into chaos.
Every couple years this facility is sold or under new management. The new flavor of the month is COGIR whose CEO, [name removed], says that senior living operators still have a "chance to regain margins in excess of 40%." This statement reeks of the mentality that seizing profits on the back of the elderly is the best game in town. Such margins have gutted staff, reduced services, and limited activities at this facility and others.
Each new management and ownership company creates a facade of improvements, while the infrastructure of the building remains poorly maintained. In unit HVAC are old and function intermittently. Repairs and renovations have created an onslaught of mice and roaches. The tired and decrepit looking elevators in the building mimic the general mood of the facility. The last management company [name removed] left the facility with several days notice

My opinion of Elance
Management of Elance has changed during the last couple months. My comments are primarily based on my sister’s comments, who resides there and observations when I visited. My sister comments often of how slow it is to call for help and food trays that remain in the room for hours. During a visit in which we ate in dining room, the service was very slow. I finally seeked assistance. Actual medical care is fine and employee [name removed] is excellent.

Going Downhill Steadily
Today the lunch menu claimed that an Asian steak bowl was high in fiber and cookies were low in carbohydrates. There is no excuse for this kind of nonsense. I think the chef is just that stupid. The quality is low and declining steadily. The staff would not admit it was a mistake. When something breaks, e.g. TV, they put in a work order and do nothing without multiple follow ups.

Elancé at Alexandria review
Overall experience: - When I initially moved my mother into this facility, it was called the The Fountains at the Washington House. We were happy with the services, staff, food, and facilities. Since it has changed hands several times, we have become increasingly disappointed. Cleanliness - renovations have significantly disrupted everyday life, especially sharing the elevator with dirty construction workers and their trash. The facility has received a coat of paint, but areas like the elevator have scuffed-up wood panels and floor and sometimes come with a distinct smell. Friendliness of staff - not through any fault of the staff, but there has been a significant turnover of staff, and staff training is lacking. Staff demonstrates a lack of knowledge of procedures and how to perform helpful tasks like transferring a call to family members. Sometimes, the inability to perform a task can be interpreted as unhelpful. Quality of care - my mother performs her own injections but has no sharps containers to dispose of her needles. When this issue was presented to the clinic, their feedback was to dispose of it in the trash. Meals/Dining. Rating - my mother used to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with her lunch and dinner; in addition to the dining facilities, my mother also had access to a snack bar in the lower part of the building where hot food, sandwiches, soups, fruits, and beverages were available to her. Unfortunately, upon changing hands several times, this option was eliminated. Additionally, the quality of food being served declined, despite the fancy names given by the dining facility, which have become the source of jokes by the residents.

Highly recommend Elance' at Alexandria. Caring, safe community.
No place is perfect I'm sure. But I can honestly say that in spite of transitions of leadership posts, in most major areas in the community, including executive directors; ongoing renovations to meet RUI standards, unexpected infrastructure challenges; the team members, care givers, clinical staff, activities team, dining personnel - all are extremely genuinely dedicated to the well being, safety, and happiness of the residents.

Don’t let the outside fool you!
This community is really bright and beautiful inside and has a great dining area to share with family and friends when you visit. The food is great, and their staff is caring and thinks of all the little touches that makes their residents feel really special and well cared for!

Elance at West End is a beautiful senior living retirement community offering luxurious accommodations and great care. I highly recommend the community. Staff is great! The food is wonderful! Located in the quaint Cameron Station area of Alexandria.

Very Friendly Community

I thought The Fountains at Washington House was lovely. The sales person was lovely. The facility was lovely. Unfortunate the level of care my mother needed they couldn't’ provide. But it was a beautiful place.
