Lost all trepidation about this in the future.
I came here temporarily for about three months due to injury and wheelchair confinement. I am 79, and my wife and I are not ready for this full-time yet. Have recently feared the trepidation I would feel when a retirement home was looking as if it would be in our imminent future. My experience at the Clarendale with its friendly, caring staff, plethora of activities, good food, and active friendly HAPPY residents has rid me of any trepidation about coming here when a more permanent need arises. This place is great.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We’re truly honored that your time at Clarendale helped ease concerns about what the future may hold. It’s wonderful to hear that the friendliness of our team, the activities, dining, and the welcoming community made such a positive impression during your recovery. We were glad to be there for you during that season and would be delighted to welcome you and your wife again whenever the time feels right. Wishing you continued healing and all the best until we meet again.

Post move in experience
Food service challenged and not worth the monthly cost. Very disorganized post move in service. They try but requires advocating on behalf of my parent. As of now there is not value in this facility. I feel like they should allow you to strip out food service and bill as used . It is poor service, inconsistent quality and only positive is convenience.

A very special place so it’s my new home
There are so many places to explore. This place is elegant and staff and residents are the friendliest people in town. I’ve lived elsewhere and there’s just no comparison. I’m making new friends each day, doing the daily workouts and living like royalty.

Love my Life at Clarendale
It was a difficult decision to leave my two-bedroom condo and transition to Independent Living at Clarendale Clayton, but I have no regrets. So Impressed I move in
High quality facility and staff. Clean, quiet, friendly, helpful. Clarendale is first class! We considered several local facilities but touring Clarendale and meeting the staff convinced us that it was the best fit for my wife and I. It is difficult to make a decision to leave our home of 36 years, but we both feel Clarendale is the place for us.

The experience here is above and beyond my dreams.
Living at Clarendale is an experience that is on going with all the pleasant experiences and happy residents. There are activities for all how wish to attend. There are movies both matinees and evening. We have bingo if that’s of interest to you also there is an art studio where I have learned about Diamond Art which I am enjoying very much. The cleaning of your apartment is done every two weeks and meals are prepared daily with special buffets. This is certainly a great example of senior living at its best!

Terrible
As a nurse practitioner, and an advocate for my parents, both who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, I would not recommend The Clarendale- Clayton for memory care or assisted living, we were told that our dad was found on Hanley Road by a visitor as he escaped from the assisted-living community. Additionally, our mother was scared and wanted to leave after months in memory care. We were we received a refund from the parent company over The Clarendale because our concerns were founded.

Overall our experience has been good. The physical plant is well maintained. There is a perception of a lot of staff turnover, but that is not unusual. My parents say the menu could have more variety. They've established an Assisted Living Council, so they feel they have a forum for expressing their feedback

Review for Clarendale Clayton
I cannot overstate how awful the food is. Worse, you MUST pay $[removed]/month for it. with no discount if you don't eat anything there. Those old people sit for an hour at mealtimes with out getting any service even water. Food is often unspeakable when it does come. Wine is often unavailable. Staff is untrained and scarce. Kitchen is a quarter the size it needs to be. They've been through 4 chefs. I wouldn't be surprised if there is eventual legal action and health ramifications for the residents. Cost is very high. Cheaper tiny 1 bedroom is $[removed]. They charge for things like adding light switches ($[removed]) or outlets that should have been there in the first place. They charge to paint a wall PLUS double charge for future repaint back to the awful baby poop brown when you move out. Any upgrades are double charged like that and returned to downgrade when you move out. So stupid. Parking extra $[removed] a month. Tiny storage cage extra $[removed]a month. They promised a driver but only have one who works 9 to 4 so no 8:00 or 3:30 doctor appointment. Promised happy hours but they have no bartender. When it is open they use untrained staff. Activities are wonderful but they only have a 13 passenger van so most people don't get to go. My Mom is sorry she moved there and is looking. We are SO disappointed. It looked so nice. Building, employees, and residents are all wonderful. Owners/company are the worst. And it is not necessary. If they cared, this wouldn't be the case. Problems are inexcusable because they are fixable. I would never recommend anyone go to ANY of their properties.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Know Missouri’s regulations for memory care. Each state has its own laws and inspection processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the communities you’re considering. Learn more about Missouri’s regulations for memory care and download the Guide to Senior Living Licensure and Inspection Reports.

  • Tour the location. Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and it helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services. Before committing, make sure that the community offers all the services your loved one needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

about Clarendale Clayton

Clarendale Clayton offers Studio, 1 Bedroom and 2 Bedrooms. Learn more.
A Place for Mom has scored Clarendale Clayton 9.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
