Our family's experience
Overall experience = Most recently , this facility has been acquired by a new management team in May. The Cedarhurst name is gone and the facility is now Charter Memory Care.... and while it is still too early to completely assess the changes that are supposedly underway I am not fully convinced that what I'm seeing actually translates to an improved experience for residents. Cleanliness - as the facility is generally clean with occasional times (weekends mostly) when a bit more effort could be made to keep things more tidy. Friendliness of the staff - in that most staff is very friendly despite a noticeable rate of employee turnover. Those who have been here long-term are exceptionally kind and caring, new staff who choose to stay are also very kind and welcoming... but with so many who choose not to stay there is a perennial need for experienced staff to pull extra shift and outside agency workers to be brought in for coverage. Quality of care - The ongoing level of staffing and turnover makes providing great care much more difficult and it is noticeable. Meals and dining -as much for the way they care for the residents as for the meals they prepare. Their menus range from fairly ordinary kinds of meals like we'd prepare for our loved ones and ourselves at home to restaurant quality offerings all served with genuine kindness. Activities - Sadly, this is where I've noticed a significant decline. In march of this year this facility lost their EXCEPTIONAL Life Enrichment Director to health concerns and subsequent retirement. In her absence there has been a noticeable void in offerings for residents. That was followed by a significant health concern for the new LED which caused a "slow start" to a new way of doing things. Then in May when the new management team arrived the LED seemed consumed by new training sessions that kept her chained to her desk and away from residents, unavailable to engage in many of the activities previously offered. Quite noticeably absent now are events designed to engage families with their residents along with facility-to-family communication in the form of event calendars and invitations etc. While I see some movement toward trying to reignite what had been a vibrant slate of ability-appropriate activities some things simply seem to have disappeared. I fear that some of these changes are likely to be a permanent philosophical/management shift. Value for cost - Cost has always been a consideration for our family and we were pleased to have found a place that we could afford for our father's care. Some of what convinced us to choose this facility over others has gone away but many items including costs have remained the same so we continue to feel that this facility is a good value compared to others

I would recommend this location. Also when I take mom out for lunch, I call ahead and they have her ready and at the door....coat and all. I picked this community because of the price followed by size and staff. Location is good.

genuinely caring staff
When it comes to the friendliness of the staff and the different activities they have for the residents, that gets a 5+. The atmosphere is very "home-like" and the staff is very loving. Their activities director is very creative and she plans many events (both ordinary and special) for residents of all ability levels. The entire facility goes out of their way to make life enjoyable for those living there.

The Best of the Best!
Cedarhurst Memory Care of Moline is wonderful! We chose this facility for our sister who has Dementia. We are very happy with all that they do with their residents. There are many opportunities and activities for the residents to choose from each day. We were happy to see all the entertainment they have, which they allow family members to attend/join their loved ones. The staff goes to great lengths to decorate the common areas for each season and the buffets are so scrumptious. Everyone is very nice and helpful! We are really pleased with this facility. We highly recommend Cedarhurst Memory Care of Moline for your loved one!!!!!!

Friendly Staff
My experience with the people was very positive. The pricing was very similiar, to a previous facility. They were extremely outgoing and explained things. The facility seemed more secure. Overall, I would recommend to other families, based on my limited experience. The head of nursing was very good.

Tour of Cedarhurst
We toured with Senior Star and it was a good tour. The staff were friendly and helpful but we just did not feel it was as good a quality facility as another one that we were looking into. My loved one also did not need this specific type of care yet. It was ultimately his decision and he felt more comfortable at another place.

We have been very pleased with the care provided at amber ridge the locked unit provides piece of mind as many are exit seeking when they first arrive, the place is spotless and very homey. The staff is caring and treat the residents with kindness and respect, all of the staff is well trained in dealing with patients at all levels of dementia and redirect appropriately. The building is well maintained and the courtyard garden was a beautiful place to spend time when the weather was good. The food looks good and the residents are given choices as to what they wish to eat. My mom is thriving with the exercise, socialization and three meals a day which she was refusing when in her own home .

Caring Staff at Amber Ridge Memory Care
Our family is so appreciative of the staff & facility at Amber Ridge Memory Care in Moline, IL. Our dad has lived there for over two months. It is very obvious that every staff member is well trained to work with the Alzheimer's residence. The facility has engaging activities for the residence. The food is yummy and healthy. The outside courtyard in the center of the building is beautiful. The staff creates a very warm, caring and safe atmosphere for all. Our family members are spread over three different states. My siblings and I all feel very blessed having Dad in this wonderful care center.

Not a Good Fit
Amber Ridge is a facility with two levels. My father had a lower level room where there are about 7 apartments. The lower level was not a good fit for my father because he was too sick to be that far away from the nursing staff. The lower level is not staffed and the residents are brought upstairs during the day. So they sit in the community room and take naps or play games. There is only one nurse on duty and three to five aids. On Sundays there isn't any management available at the facility or activities going on. I would suggest you keep a close eye on your loved one to make sure their needs are being met.

January 21, 2016
Thank you for your comments I appreciate your feedback about your father’s stay here at Amber Ridge Memory Care. While there are two levels to our community both levels are fully staffed on all shifts. At Amber Ridge our activity programming is such that we utilize a Montessori method of keeping our residents engaged and fulfilled. There is a designated “Manager on Duty” on the weekends, including Sundays. The manager on duty is available to the employees, residents, and families for any purpose or assistance. In addition we employ highly trained Certified Nursing Assistants to provide care and programming. Our Resident Services Director is also on call to respond and consult on care issues. I am also available around the clock, 7 days a week, to listen to meet with residents and families. Sincerely, Richele Larson – Executive Director

I Wish We Moved Mom In Earlier
I'd give the whole place a good solid 4. The care is good and they have her involved in some activities. I'm not there all the time to see them but I know they took her out last week to the festival of trees. Jane is the administrator of the memory care there and she's really hands on. She's actively engaged and the place is nice. They keep it very clean. There's maybe 40 residents there. She used to be in assisted living with over 100 residents and she's getting much more personalized care at Amber Ridge. I kind of wish I'd moved her a year earlier. They help her with everything. They dress her in the morning for breakfast and her bed is made up first thing - it's really nice. It's kept tidy and clean.
