I did not actually tour the place, but I did meet with the director. He referred me to a more strict type of memory care for our families needs. He was wonderful to speak with and so helpful and patient.

Eyeopening
I was 3 + months at Brookdale. Unfortunately i was there during a transition period as business changed hands. It is now Discovery Village. My personal experience was very disappointing. I had a lovely appointment space, light, bright, spacious. The nursing staff and nurses aides were pathetic. They were lacking in knowledge unable to do anything just sent me out to hospital. I found them rude! The exercise program and activities were well done. Meals were never warm, the menu and food not great. Sysco prepared no home cooking. Dining was prearranged. Same table same folks always at night. I had most meals in my place as mobility was a problem getting to the dining room. Housekeeping good. I had a shower schedule Thursday evening. I hated it. Why not Twice a wk at a-time better for me. One nite they showed up at 9 pm. Way after my bedtime! The concierge was helpful It was very expensive!!

I was really impressed by the facility for Independent Living. The units were great especially having balconies available. I found out it only included one meal a day but that would work for me and the refrigerators were able to store for the additional meals.

Friendly and inviting.
The friendliness of staff and warm greeting and helpfulness by receptionist was appreciated. How you are greeted sets the tone for your experience. That held true throughout the tour from the sales manager, the director to the tenants. Happy, smiling, friendly greetings of tenants tells the story. The variety of activity rooms and dining room setting were exciting and inviting. The accomodations are roomy and clean. It was our first tour and we felt we had to look no further for my sister who is a new amputee.

We were very impressed with both the staff and the facilities. The receptionist greeted us warmly and friendly; as did the Sales Representative and Director. Even the tenants and other staff we met during the tour were welcoming. There was a sense of warm hospitality and hominess. Tenants were actively engaged in an event in the community room. There are good size activity rooms: library, puzzle room, billiards, craft room and pleassnt dining room. I could con't with the all the positive points but will sum it up by saying this was our first tour. We felt we didn't need to look any further. We were sold.. First impressions are lasting; starting with the receptionist and ending with Sales Representative. He is fantastic.

Review for Discovery Village Quincy
I think they call it discovery Quincy Bay now, but it was [removed name] when a year ago when my mom first went in there and [removed name] was wonderful. The staff is great. The food is great from what I hear my experience with them has been good since the transition to discovery, I haven't been able to Get a hold of her Bill. She pretty much can't do anything so it's challenging for her to get a hold of that so I have to go there and dig through her apartment to figure it out, which I haven't haven't done yet, but I do wish that they had some sort of electronic bill option Instead of just giving it to the residence however I haven't checked this month so I can check again to see if we got an email. My mom can be difficult and they are supportive.

At first I didn't know much about the place and was feeling nervous, and meet a very friendly guy with a big smile. We talked and he asked many questions We took a tour around and as we went I saw and was greeted with other friendly people and staff. I felt like I could make good friends here. And not feel alone. There are things to do like crafts, playing pool, going to the library, puzzles to put together, playing board games. A little store inside to buy that birthday gift or something you might need. They even have activities that you can sign up to do.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Massachusetts regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Massachusetts regulations for Assisted Living.
