Nothing good
I, really, have nothing good to say about this facility. I wouldn’t live there if it were the only senior living facility in Walla Walla, WA. They care more about the money than the do their residents. I had all my jewelry disappear when there. Staff did nothing about it. Staff goes into rooms when you are not in them. They went through my closet and used my makeup and toiletries without putting them away.

The only complaint I have is that it was difficult for my husband in a wheelchair to get in and out of the outside doors. They need a coded keypad with disabled access doors. We both liked the lightness and airiness of the place.

The biggest thing for us is there is not enough communication with the family members outside of the facility. You have to call them to get any information and it is a struggle. My loved one is having issues right now and I am not getting information nearly as well as I should be .

Phenomenal care and outstanding staff at Brookdale
The cleanliness of the community is great, the friendliness of the staff is awesome. The care services have been really good, our only issues which isn't really an issues at all would be the communication. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a responsive but we do know they get very busy. Our loved one due to her health requires extra time and care, and they do a great job giving her that extra time and care. We have been very impressed with them, this Brookdale community has been outstanding, the director is great and we are just happy with our decision. The meals are really good, that has been one thing our loved one has consistently said was good. We can look at a calendar that has all of the activities and they look to be pretty good for us. The value for cost is very good, right on par with other communities we checked out.

Nice, easily accessible assisted living facility in College Place
Cleanliness was good, maybe a little higher standard than normal due to Covid. They took Covid precautions very seriously, and provided masks and shields for visitors. A couple of times I had to wear PPE gowns/vests. The staff was always aware when we walked in the door, and the residents would always help hail somebody down if the front desk was on the phone or something. The response was always great very time we came in to visit, and everyone always said hello., I have utter confidence in the staff that are there. I think they are all well qualified. But perhaps because it's a larger facility, my loved one in respite care didn't get checked on as much as I would have liked. Also with Covid, I'm sure they had additional responsibilities that spread their staff more thin. But my loved one was pretty much left alone and not really looked at on a regular basis. She spent days in bed because she didn't really feel like doing anything. I was a little disappointed that they didn't encourage her more to at least get up and sit in her chair, and the fact that they didn't try to have more interaction with her other than delivering her meals. I understand she was in quarantine for a while, and she was there on a respite stay, but I just expected more from them and was a little frustrated they didn't help her get up and around more. She also had an ER visit while she was there, and no one had checked her room while she was gone. So there was a bathroom smell in her room when we came back. We decided to move her just so she could be checked on a little bit more. They were very gracious in the move-out process. I had no problems with the staff - from the custodian, to the med techs, to the people at the front desk, the director, admissions, everybody. The director was really wonderful and recommended bringing some things from home to make it feel more comfortable when she first move in. He saw one of the paintings from a local artist that we had brought, and he actually contacted the artist and facilitated getting us another painting, which was really cool. I was just disappointed that they didn't check on her more. The food was pretty good, and she actually started eating more while she was there and gained a little bit of weight, which was healthier for her. In general with any assisted living, its difficult to anticipate the price. There's a community fee upfront, plus monthly rent, plus monthly level of care. So the cost was a lot higher than I was expecting, but it was definitely lower than receiving that type of care at home. They were very upfront about the community fee being non-refundable after move-in. Even losing that community fee after we moved out, it was still less than hiring private care at home.

Good experience with Brookdale
We had a good experience with Brookdale College Place with the exception of covid. We chose this facility because my sister looked into the ratings and talked to the executive director and they had a lot of knowledge. The staff members were good with communication. I never had the food but I do know that they provided some good choices on the meals. I think with the activities they did what they were able to do but it was hard with covid. I would recommend them to others who are looking.
