a great place for loved ones
Barrington of West Chester has been a wonderful community for our loved ones so far. The food isn't bad and they offer the residents a good variety. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families who are looking for a place for their loved ones.

Not reliable care....
Assisted care and 24 hour nursing care was not provided to the level as was promised to us.
I wasn't impressed with the aids very much. It seemed like most of the aids just did not want to work. There was a few nurses there that I thought truly cared for their patients.
I definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone at this point. They have some work to do to create better care and communication with family.

I toured this community and it was great! A different atmosphere than the others I toured. This one is a little bit dated, but is still very nice. They didn't have any availability at the time, so we continued our search.

Highly Recommend
We have had a fantastic experience with Barrington. Their director of marketing and admissions is phenomenal. She has responded to our requests in an extremely timely manner, sometimes well after end of business hours, and especially when we needed someone quickly. The front desk has been great when we enter and leave. They check temps to make sure people are well before they enter and do a good job protecting the residents against Covid. The staff have been checking the residents weekly for Covid in an effort to make sure everyone is staying healthy, which we very much appreciate. The food is excellent. They have a very good, full slate of activities. The cost is on the higher end, but we're getting good value for what we're receiving.

if you need assisted living; go somewhere else
Barrington has beautiful apartments with a lively ambiance. we came across some good people here who were very friendly and helpful. especially the front desk staff and the activities director, they were extremely kindhearted. we did notice a big difference between the general staff and the nursing staff. the quality of their assisted living program did seem to be lacking. it wasn't so much the nurses themselves, but more so the management. we did have to remove my loved one because their was a lack of attentiveness and care management, we did not feel that we were working with a team. this was also a learning experience, as we may not have been fully aware of my loved ones state and needs. Barrington has a lot of great strengths, but their assisted living is a weakness. I can tell that this community is changing, and it doesn't take much to notice that there has not been a revamp in the assisted living side.
Barrington would have been a great place for my loved one several years ago when she was more upbeat and independent. I would be hesitant to recommend this community to those in need of an advanced level of care; I would advise you to look elsewhere - just based off of our experience. this would be a great community for independent living and younger residents.

Great Place That Greatly work with Your to Meet Your Needs
I would highly recommend the community for your loved ones. The staff and community bent over backwards to assist the family and my loved one in getting into the community quickly. My loved one enjoys it here.
The activities aren't happening because of COVID, currently. I would like to see the residents that are vaccinated to be able to participate together. I'm not sure if this is restricted due to Board of Health restrictions.

My review of Barrington
With the virus I have basically been in lock down for about 5 months. I am very disappointed because they do not have any in house doctors or therapy. In the beginning the food was good but now the food here is not good since being delivered, they do not have a dietitian and they are not nutritious. My apartment does have a balcony with a washer and dryer and it is a nice place, but I am waiting for things to open back up.

The Home for Mom
My mother currently lives at the Barrington and has for the past seven years. The staff is extremely helpful to mom and acknowledges the children when they stop by for visits. The dining area is very nice and the food is great. The menu variety is changed on a daily basis so guests and visitors do not eat the same meals everyday. The maintenance staff do their best to ensure the building is clean and functional at all times and is willing and able to help family members with specific ADA concerns. It is not just "a place for mom", it is "the home for mom".

Love The Barrington!
My mom recently moved to Barrington from another facility after a stroke and she is so happy! The food is restaurant quality and the servers are kind, courteous and make the dining experience a pleasure. The nursing staff is caring, smiling, engaged and they respond quickly when called. The facility is beautiful and has a more "open" feel than others I toured. There are so many activities and the residents appear to be out and about instead of staying in their rooms.

The Barrington of West Chester allows seniors to live an independent life as much as possible, but still provides a myriad of services and activities to enhance your physical, mental and spiritual well-being. All residents are treated with dignity and respect while creating a very homelike feel. Thoughtfully designed floor plans offer the privacy and freedom to live the way residents choose in comfortable apartments boasting walk-in closets, well-appointed kitchens and a great number of safety features. Menus feature multiple choices of chef-prepared meals served restaurant-style in the dining room. Fun activities are planned according to the interests of the residents. All maintenance and housekeeping are included, so days are spent enjoying life, not chores. This is my home and I enjoy living here!!! THANK YOU!

Nice, but not What We Wanted
I toured Barrington and thought it was very nice. However, I did not like that the only available apartment they had at the time was in a corner of the building and that my loved one would have had to do downstairs herself to get her medication instead of having it brought to her. it just did not seem to be what we wanted.

Warning
I strongly caution anyone searching for a place for their loved ones to totally do your homework before entering into any contract at Barrington of west Chester. They evaluated our mother before accepting her and assured us that they could absolutely take care of her. In addition to the monthly fee, there is a $5,000. NON-REFUNDABLE deposit. After only a couple of weeks they realized that they couldn't take care of her after all and they informed us that we had to find her another facility and, in the meantime, they required that we provide 24 hour care while she remains in their facility. We all work so we had to hire Visiting Angels which was another huge additional expense on top of what we were already paying. It was only assumed that, under circumstances, they would automatically offer to return the $5,000 deposit but they merely reminded us that it was non-refundable. An already emotional time because an absolute nightmare and created an huge financial hardship on the family. I not only would no recommend this place - I would highly warn against taking a loved one there. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful but the experience was awful. They are very under staffed.

Care and options
This was the nice tour. The staff was nice and friendly. They did not have the first floor. We knew that the layout of the community and we did not want her having an elevator due to it being difficult. We did not feel safe here due to the layout. This is a community that has a lot of options. We would recommend that families tour this community due to the different types of care with the other residents.
