The nursing staff have been really nice. Our mom has dementia and does not walk all that good anymore. She always talked about her and the girls playing Bingo at her old place and her crafts. At American House Bristol she never ever talks about any of it. The food is not as great as we were lead to believe either. Mom doesn't see well and as I said she has dementia so she really doesn't understand to ask for something different. She would love good old country cooking (green beans, corn bread, Cole slaw, potatoes that aren't French fries). She hates eggs and doesn't eat a lot of meats. As far as housekeeping goes, she runs out or gets dangerously low of toilet paper. Her TV is hard to operate for someone with good eyesight and understanding. Moving in went good because we were a team of her family. At her old place the staff seemed to know not only her name but ours as well. We have called and emailed but never heard back other than from [name removed], he is my go to guy. The price and the nursing staff was our number one reason for bringing her to American House Bristol, but if not for that I would almost say her other place she liked much better and interacted with others more. They offer a good variety of activities and live music, they have several things going on each day. In fact, they offer more live music than any other facility in the area. This stuck out to us, as our loved one's main hobby/interest was music. Our loved one struggled with Cognitive Impairment and the staff frequently worked with him one on one through music therapy. Most facilities wanted to place our loved one into Memory Care, but this one was willing to try Assisted Living first. We're thankful for that, as it worked out very well. He did great in Assisted Living. As to my loved one's passing, I couldn't have asked for more from the staff. When he went into distress and I yelled for a nurse, they were there immediately and handled the situation very well until First Responders arrived to take over. They were very comforting to me during this time. As soon as we removed my loved one's personal belongings, they stopped the billing and reimbursed us for the remainder of the month. That's something we didn't expect and very much appreciated.
