Need to be audited.
Let me start with the poor quality of food - hot dogs or soup for supper is not nutritious -especially if a low sodium diet is required. Now residents, if they prefer not to eat soup or hot dogs, are required to provide their own eggs as dinner is a reality. Often times there is no butter or bread. These items are especially missed as breakfast items. Bologna sandwiches as a meal? For the thousands of dollars they charge monthly, one would think the food would be plentiful, healthy and nutritious, sadly, no. Fresh fruit and vegetables are a scarce commodity. Staff is overworked which results in very high turnover. Residents with limited mobility often wait over an hour after calling for bathroom assistance. Temporary help is often used and many are untrained. I am not a disgruntled employee. I have a family friend who regrettably, resided here.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we know that your feedback is crucial to helping us be successful. We are spending a lot of focused quality improvement in our kitchen, beginning by securing a new cook who just started last week. Good food is important - not only for the physical health of our residents but for the opportunity it provides for social interactions and comfort. I am sorry that we dropped the ball on this, we promise to do better in the future. I looked into the concern about eggs and I was not able to determine what happened. Know that we care and this is something we are paying attention to - thank you for sharing. In the future, we welcome your direct feedback so we can deal with issues immediately.

Better than the rest!
I'm grateful that the staff at Adelaide Place tries to take into consideration all the residents' preferences, even though it's not easy. I can hardly make my own family happy with a dinner choice because so many people like different things. My family member has received very good care there, and someone always calls me if there's a concern or something I need to be updated on. Look past the negative reviews and take the time to come and see for yourself.

Pitiful food, short staffed, lack of care.
This place is so understaffed, poor food, it’s incredible that they are not shut down. Patients can wait as much as two hours for someone to come help them use the restroom. Waiting 45 minutes is pretty average. Often times, my mother would miss breakfast because no one would come get her ready in time for breakfast. Pitiful. The food - stir fry that has hot dogs in it as the protein?! True. Canned watery soup for supper is common in the winter. High turnover of staff and their is not enough staff to care for the people living there. There are very limited activities for residents and few entertainment activities. It’s a sad place to spend the end of your life.

Response from Adelaide Place
August 9, 2019
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. When a family member lives in a different part of the country and is not able to make it in to visit their loved one in the community very often, it makes sense that reports from a loved one would be relied upon. Oftentimes, however, the reports are not accurate representations of what is actually occurring in the home. Because we value resident rights, every resident is able to start their day at the time of their choosing, and that can be a reason that things do not happen on schedule. However, every resident, regardless of their schedule, is given an opportunity to eat all their meals. As for response times, our nurse call system allows us to track and monitor response times, so if there is a concern, we can follow up accordingly. At Adelaide Place we also have a high staff-to-resident ratio in order to provide the best care for our residents. The stir fry that you refer to is a beautiful vegetable blend with fried polish sausage (not hot dogs), and it was delicious and went over very well with the residents. If you'd like to follow us on Facebook, you will be able to keep up-to-date on all the wonderful activities that we have for our residents. You can also request an activity calendar at any time. If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out to the manager. We value telling the truth, working hard, following the rules, loving others, and having fun, so we are always looking for opportunities to build trust with our families, whether they are in the area or out of town.

I find that the Adelaide house has issues with both the food and with cleaning. I believe that they don't have enough staff to clean adequately, and they definitely don't have a cook or nutritionist planning and cooking the meals. The meal at supper-time is often very bad and very limited.

food is horrible!
The food at Adelaide House is horrible. My mother seems to be happy there, but they don't have a lot to look forward to other than eating. She is not starving, but she has to have her own food brought to her because the food there is so bad. They are serving luncheon meats at dinner, and hot dogs, and such. One time it was just a bowl of noodles with nothing over it. She does not want fancy food, but she does want decent food and they are not serving it.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Wisconsin regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Wisconsin regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Adelaide Place 7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
