2024
Since 1997, The Bradley House has cultivated a warm, welcoming environment of care inspired by the founder’s grandmother. Disappointed with the low staff-to-resident ratio which can be common at larger senior living communities and may result in less attentive care, Charisse Bradley began her own care home. She believed her grandma deserved a “cozy, homey place, with homemade foods, pleasant smells, full of life and TLC” and has nurtured such a community ever since.
In fact, our superior care is too much to contain in a single location! Our address at Bradley House 1 is 4031 Apricot Road, and we differ from our sister location in two key ways: We accept adults aged 40+ and do not allow pets, while Bradley House 2 accepts adults aged 65+ and does allow pets. Living spaces and room arrangements also vary between the two houses. At both locations, however, our management is well-versed in senior care and highly praised in testimonials. We invite you to call and set up a free two-hour consultation to discuss all that we can offer you or your loved one.
As you approach The Bradley House 1, you’ll instantly notice the charming, centered-around-care atmosphere that pervades the whole community. Our ranch-style, olive- and grey-colored home is situated on a quarter acre of land on a low-traffic, dead-end street. Behind a scalloped white picket fence, the front yard features beds of pink and yellow flowers mingling with desert vegetation, white rose bushes, and whimsical yard ornaments. Inside you’ll find plenty of relaxing, calming spaces to spend your time.

Living Arrangements

We’re proud to offer a range of room arrangements and bathroom styles to accommodate the varying needs and preferences of our residents. Our home features eight bedrooms, with the options of private, semi-private, and wheelchair-accessible rooms with speciality features to assist in mobility. Some rooms are located on the ground floor and include access to a private patio space where you may grow and tend to your own container plants. Our home includes five bathrooms, some private and others shared, with a variety of accessibility features to allow all residents to safely attend to personal hygiene. Full tubs with grab bars provide for soothing baths, while roll-in showers provide ease of accessibility. Residents are provided access to utilities such as climate-controlled heating and air conditioning, high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and protection under our alert system to help prevent wandering. The variety of room options and amenities have allowed us to provide specific, preferential living arrangements to all of our residents over the past 20 years.

Dining

Our staff curates the menu of prepared meals with the input of our residents, customizing nutritious cuisine to their preferences and dietary needs. We emphasize serving an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with tender meat and fish, as the basis for healthy and balanced eating. Let us know if you prefer a kosher or vegetarian meal plan and we will design our menu appropriately. We’ll also cater to low/no sodium, low/no sugar, and vegan diets. We welcome guests to join us for our restaurant-style meals as we gather together to dine.

Common Areas

Our indoor and outdoor common spaces are thoughtfully designed for inclusion of all residents no matter their level of mobility. Our indoor areas create a calm, relaxing atmosphere for residents to spread out and enjoy time outside of their personal rooms. You might hear mellow tones drifting around the house from a resident or staff member playing our piano while you cozy up next to the fireplace with a beloved book. Our movie and TV lounge features plenty of comfortable seating for residents to hang out and watch a classic movie or cheer on a favorite sports team. We have designated walking paths both inside and outside to promote physical movement for flexibility and strength. Our front patio features a table and set of spring-motion chairs, with three umbrellas poised to provide plenty of shade during a picnic lunch. On a rainy day, you can still catch some fresh air on the covered section of the patio while sitting on a cozy outdoor couch with extra cushions. Step along placement stones linking our front patio to the backyard for an enclosed, grassy lawn perfect for barefoot strolls to ground yourself.

Activities

At The Bradley House 1, our staff plans a range of activities to keep our residents entertained and stimulated throughout the day. The specifics of how we fill our time vary with the residents who share our home, as we adapt to each person’s unique interests and abilities. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and socialize, or simply relax their own way. It’s not uncommon to hear music in our home, as we sing along to favorite songs and maybe show off a few dance moves. While we don’t allow residents to have pets, we bring in animal friends to visit, putting smiles on our faces with their wagging tails and soothing purs. Our huge 75-inch TV makes movie-watching feel like a theatrical experience. You’ll also find us hosting game nights, BBQs, and holiday parties, creating celebrations throughout the seasons. We know that physical well-being is very important for overall wellness, so we often take walks or perform simple exercise routines. Our residents can be civic-minded, ready to participate in local service programs.
While our home provides a loving and entertaining atmosphere, not all of the fun takes place behind our picket fence! We’ll pack up a meal and head out for a picnic at a local park, enjoying the fresh air and change in scenery. Trips to the mall and other shopping destinations offer casual retail therapy. A resident-favorite tradition is driving around to take in the Christmas light displays during the holiday season.

Personal Services

We take care of many to-do list tasks so you or your loved one can focus on their own well-being. For those who drive independently, designated parking spaces for residents are stationed just outside the picket fence. We offer complimentary transportation services for those who no longer drive, providing a way to reach local amenities with the support and supervision of our staff. However, if a trip to the grocery store sounds more like a stressful endeavor than an enjoyable diversion, our staff can pick up items for you. We provide on-site beautician services to keep our residents feeling nicely groomed, styled, and polished. We’re proud to receive testimonials commending the cleanliness of the home, as we provide superior housekeeping and laundry services. On-site devotional services provide spiritual residents with an option to worship in the familiar setting of our home.

Local Area

Simi Valley, California is nestled between the Santa Susana Mountains and Simi Hills, providing a picturesque backdrop of sandstone summits and green chaparral shrubland. Numerous parks provide outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities to explore the uniquely California landscapes, including Tapo Canyon Regional Park which is just 4.2 miles from our home. One of the top tourist destinations in town is the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, with its unparalleled collection of historical documents and artifacts detailing the presidency of “The Great Communicator,” as well as an Air Force One aircraft used by seven presidents. Simi Valley is known as one of the safest cities in California and boasts crime rates well below national averages. Our home is conveniently located just off the Ronald Reagan Freeway, connecting us quickly to all that the surrounding area has to offer. Adventist Health Simi Valley is a hospital located just 3.2 miles away, putting us within short reach of a range of medical services. There are plenty of retail and grocery amenities nearby, including a shopping center 2.4 miles from us. For residents who prefer a specific denomination or religious service, let us know and we’ll arrange transport to the variety of local spiritual centers. Visiting guests will find a Holiday Inn located a quick seven-minute drive down the freeway from us.

Medical Services

We’re an ADA-compliant assisted living community for adults over 40, with a specialization in memory care for those coping with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia and memory impairment. We also provide rehabilitation, dietary assistance, physical therapy, palliative care, and hospice.
With two highly trained caregivers available around the clock for up to six residents, anyone living in our home can rest easy knowing a helping hand is always within reach. A doctor is on call to handle specific medical needs that may arise. To attend to the specific and evolving needs of residents, we’re able to bring in an array of visiting specialists, including podiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and visiting nurses for additional support as needed. Trained caregivers can provide assistance with medication administration, monitoring usage, and offering reminders. Our staff readily assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), providing support in routine self-care such as grooming, eating, bathing, transferring positions, toileting, and walking. Pet therapy is available to boost the emotional well-being and happiness of our residents.
Our specialty in memory care means we’re able to offer sensory-based programming, reminisce therapy, consistent and familiar routines, and compassionate staff well-versed in the unique challenges of memory impairment. Residents coping with symptoms related to Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia may become confused or unaware in situations; our staff will patiently redirect their behavior to a safer, more grounded place. Our secured property includes WanderGuard™ to prevent walking to unsafe areas.

Care Types Provided

The Bradley House 1 is licensed in the state of California as a residential care facility for the elderly (RCFE), which refers to a housing arrangement chosen voluntarily by persons 60 years of age or over, or their authorized representative, where varying levels and intensities of care and supervision, protective supervision, or personal care are provided, based upon their varying needs, as determined in order to be admitted and to remain in the facility. RCFEs are also referred to as assisted living facilities and board and care facilities. Persons under 60 years of age with compatible needs may be allowed to be admitted or retained in an RCFE, if certain conditions are met.
