Nurses Need To Do Nursing Work
The medications are administered by “Med Techs” and this also includes injections and narcotics. They do NOT have the knowledge and training compared to a nurse. When asked what a pill is for, one of the “Med Techs” had no knowledge of the reason it was given, the side effects that the med could cause and could not pronounce the name of the medication correctly. These residents pay way too much money not to have a nurse administering their medications. The state regulations of personal care homes and assisted living facilities are too relaxed. Families really need to come together and look into this unsafe practice and demand that our loved ones be taken care of by nurses. Let the “techs” do personal care line they should be doing with the residents!

In Pennsylvania, personal care providers to use specially trained med tech co-workers to distribute prescribed medications to residents. In fact, the Pennsylvania Department of Health trains and re-certifies med techs every year. If a co-worker has a question about a medication, our campus nurses serve as a resource readily available to answer resident questions about medications or diagnoses. Further, nurses review every medication order before it is available to be given to the resident.

My Mother in Law (MIL) moved into the Lancaster Country Meadows last summer and absolutely loves it there! Nice big room, good food, lots of activities for everyone if you want to participate. Allows pets, takes residents on country rides, to doctor appointments within reason. But best of all during this Corona-virus, my MIL is having a ball! We've not been able to visit due to the residents are quarantined. But no need to worry about them, they are keeping them very busy with activities but yet keeping their social distance between everyone! They do big puzzles in the lobby, word puzzles with treats for the winners! They are playing games with prizes, having social hour and special treats, devotionals, music by piano. Exercises in the gym! With the weather being nice, the residents are allowed to walk outside on site and get some fresh air. Sit on the benches and watch the birds feeding (residents have lots of feeders out). Most important they are taking the precautions needed during this time BUT making the best of it! CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT ITS LIKE DURING NORMAL TIMES!! Wonderful - and it feels like home!

Nice facility but too plush
I was looking for a facility for my Wife and we were able to tour this community. The administrator who gave us the tour was very nice. The building itself looked great and it was very nice appealing. What I really liked is that they have a great courtyard and a bar. The only reason why we did not go to the facility is that the atmosphere and people felt too plush. I would recommend this facility to other families.

Beautiful outside does not mean a caring staff inside.
Beautiful community however staff were not eager to assist us upon entering the community. Marketing gentleman was very assertive and not patient in listening about our needs for my mother. He was more concerned about us committing to a down payment. We toured twice with two different Wellness Directors. The one we met in 2015 was very nice and very knowledgeable of the industry and what the staff could provide to care for my mother. She showed caring and I felt good about leaving my mother but it was not the right time for us. The second tour in 2016, the Wellness Director was not the same and very scattered with her knowledge of long term care, as well as what her nurses can provide. We met a day shift nurse who was very curt and rushed. Needless to say we made our decision not to have my mother reside with Country Meadows and chose [Removed] instead. Primarily due to the knowledge and professionalism of the staff that would be overseeing and providing care.

Very nice place, expensive
This was a very nice place, and it felt very high end. It was a beautiful facility, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it was also very expensive, and was a little higher level of care than what my loved one required.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Pennsylvania regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Pennsylvania regulations for Assisted Living.
