the good, the bad, and the ugly
Cleanliness - between a 3 - 4 - it seems that the areas on the main floor where they would be seen the most by visitors are very clean but there are areas on the other floors that the corners, moldings, and baseboards definitely need attention. My aunt's room is dirty but that's because she won't let the cleaning staff do anything. Friendliness of staff - 5 - Excellent, especially the maintenance workers [name removed] and [name removed]. My aunt is a difficult, aggressive person so I know that she challenges the staff to provide the level of care that she needs - but I've had, on several occasions, issues with getting the nurses to call me back - I called several weeks ago to get a copy of my aunt's medical records - twice - never got a callback - I call to ask status of her care - same thing. Meals/Dining hard to rate because my aunt isn't happy with the food but one of her neighbors down the hallway told me yesterday that she likes the food. Activities N/A my aunt doesn't participate because the activities are on a different floor than she is and she's mostly blind. Mira Vie is the least expensive facility in the area but she still pays a little over [fee removed] for a tiny room a month which I feel is still overpriced - in my opinion ALL facilities are overpriced, some worse than others.
Would I recommend Mira Vie? If your loved one is mobile, can see and hear reasonably well with no major health issues that would warrant multiple outside doctor visits, then YES

The Chelsea at Forsgate offers assisted living and memory care in a quiet corner of New Jersey not far from the urban centers just to the north. The landscaping features matured plantings and in summer boasts a colorful display of numerous flowers. Would not recommend !
I had a HORRIBLE experience at Mira Vie !! My husband fell 14 times and sustained a fractured hand during one fall. Very understaffed - Med techs were referred to as "nurses". After the 14 th fall I took him out and hired a private home health aide. Talking with other professionals about Mira Vie - it is NOT a place to send a loved one !!
Do not put your loved one in the Memory Unit unless totally INDEPENDENT! They could lay on the floor for an inordinate period of time. No one knows anything!

No bus for 5 months no a/c in halls for 3 months
Although there are positives. it is sad that the hall and public spaces have been without Air Conditioning for 3 months. This means in hot weather, residents cannot do activities in public spaces- art, movies, bingo and they are relegated to their rooms. Also, the bus that was used to transport residents to events has not been in use ( being repaired) for several months, so those trip outside the facility have not been happening.

Beautiful place, friendly staff
The sales person [name removed] is a sweetheart - my aunt was beyond difficult and rude to everyone but Kennedy took it all in stride --- the nurses are extremely patient, kind, and helpful to her - ALWAYS - even when my aunt gives them a hard time --- the wifi connection is very week so the staff could never get my aunt's TTY / hearing impaired phone to work which makes my aunt angry and she has taken her anger out on every member of the family - I called Verizon and was told that Chelsea had a contract with Comcast so other carriers are not allowed to fix the issue --- [name removed] does what every asst living facility does and that nickels and dimes you for everything including charging $3 a meal if a tray has to be delivered to a resident which I told Kennedy that's ridiculous because their residents are old and sick and sometimes can't get out of their room so why on earth would you penalize
them like that - [name removed]'s response that by charging people if they elect to stay in their room would "encourage" them to get out and socialize - I told her that it sounds like they are penalizing the residents instead --- also the were overcharging my aunt for her level of care until I finally talked to the head nurse and had them change it --- otherwise the place is beautiful in my opinion with two balconies, a main gathering room, activities, pet friendly and the staff are great.
Place is clean with plenty of natural light in the common areas.
My aunt doesn't like the food - said it is very bland.
Also, it wasn't made clear that residents need to rely on friends or family members to accompany them to medical appointments.
They have a shuttle bus but they only drive 9 miles or less to an appointment.

They do have weekly entertainment which is very nice.
I think that the night time as well as weekend staff that come in could be more patient with the residents. I do know that all facilities are having trouble getting help though, it is not their fault!
I have only seen a few meals, but from what I see, they could have more green vegetables and fruit and less starchy meals.

The Chelsea at Forsgate gave us a great tour. The woman who showed us around was so sweet. It just was not the right fit. The residents here needed more care than my mother, so we decided to look for a place that offered independent living instead.

Right Place for My Dad
We have had a very good experience here. This was really the only place that didn't have a spend down, and it is a quality place. The staff are very responsive to the family's questions or concerns about our loved one.
The residents have choices to choose from for meals, and the meals are served three times a day. The community also provides snacks to the residents.

Do your diligence
Covid distorted a lot of things for us during her short stay here. I would tell others to just do your diligence and make sure you get insight from people who have actually had their loved ones here. I still think it is a good place, its just understanding the whole process. Do not discount the additional services needed while looking because that can really drive the cost significantly.

Very friendly and helpful
We chose The Chelsea at Forsgate because of the friendliness of staff members as well as the location of it, it was close so we would be able to visit often. The room sizes here were adequate for what he needed. I would absolutely recommend them to other families.

My Mother was in need of a Senior Living Facility and I contacted the Chelsea at Forsgate. The facility and the staff was wonderful, accommodating and answered all of my questions openly and honestly. I was even provided a tour on very short notice. What was impressive that on the day I was to tour the facility, the amount of residents sitting in the common area, reading, listening to music, talking - it was nice to see them socializing and not sitting in their rooms; unfortunately the location in Monroe was not convenient for my mother and our family but I am holding on to their Brochure in case our situation should change. This would be the First phone call I wold make.

Wish it was what I thought it was....
They were warm and sweet and friendly and listed all of their amenities and boasted just how lively and wonderful this place was. Petrified to make this next step for my parent, I felt this place was thriving and the answer to our prayers.
Sadly it was not. The staff is denfensive and moody the minute you have a problem. You can never get a hold of anyone as the aids and staff that take care of your loved one are not consistent. There are limited activities. The worst part- items missing, stealing, and staff members on their phones. While there are some lovely people, the charm and excitement to get my loved one was enough to sign the deal, and I haven’t seen any of that love since. There’s a lack of humanity that I’m not sure is a trait one can fix.

My mother, [name removed] has been so pleased with the kindness and excellent job that the aides are doing. The aides are making sure mom takes her medication on time and promptly.
