The friendliness of the staff is a 5+ but the care services fluctuates. For the value for cost, I would say its the same as any assisted living, they have their ups and downs but they always do their best. Thanks [name removed].

Our experience
I believe those working under Management had good intentions.
However they always seemed to be short staffed with a high turnover in all departments.
It was difficult to obtain and get maintenance/custodial assistance due to short staff and unknowledgeable workers.
We had a toilet that had to be flushed pulling a chain in the tank for over a month.
The fireplace in our room didn't work (also reported by other residents in their rooms).
We were told they were waiting on a part which never arrived.
Getting food delivered to the room would result in wait times exceeding 2 hours past meal times and periodically wouldn't arrive at all.
They had some well intentioned staff and I wouldn't want to poke fingers.
We no longer reside there as the rates were increasing and we didn't feel it was in our best interests.

Nice staff. Short full pay before Medicaid.
We chose Brookdale in Coeur d'Alene because it was within my father's monthly budget. They also offered us a short "rundown" or a short time of doing full pay before they can accept Medicaid should he need that in the future. The staff is friendly. Facilities are middle of the road, but that is fine. They offer both independent and assisted living under the same roof, so as my father's health changes, he will simply move to an assisted living room... not to a new facility. They will also allow a person with memory issues to stay, as long as they are not a flight risk, or harmful to themselves or others. And if a resident needs memory care, they can transfer to Spokane Valley: avoiding an additional rundown in another facility. Even though there is high turnover and the food isn't that great, he is staying with Brookdale because of the aging in place benefits.

Brookdale Experience
We were there in independent living for only about a week, we were then going to transition to assisted living the following Monday due to dad's declining condition. I got a call from our hospice case worker that Dad was no longer at the facility and did not know where he was at, she asked me and I did not know either. She ran it down and found out his niece checked him out and took him to her home in Washington. I was his power of attorney for medical decisions etc. and was not informed. On Monday they told me that he said he wanted to leave with her. However, earlier in the week they said that they tested him and his decision making was compromised and he was not able to make independent decisions. It was a confusing experience for sure.

My experience has been great. The food is very good. They do a wonderful job. Staff is very helpful and have answered all my question. When I moved in a folder was placed in my room with all the necessary phone numbers and other information. They have a driving service, but I have yet used this service, though I know others that have.I picked this place because, even though I live in the Assisted Living area, I am able to not have to worry about falling and if there are problems, I know I can contact someone to help. Also, compared to other facilities, this place was the least expensive.

I feel my mom is safe and her needs will/are being met. Thank you for A Place for Mom's assistance. This is an older facility. Mom takes her meals in her apartment and chooses not to attend activities. As for the value, I think all assisted living facilities are too expensive. But, that said, I'm sure their costs are reasonable for all the expenses they incur with staff and maintenance, etc.

Based on the experience we have had so far with Brookdale Coeur d'Alene, some of the staff team is friendly. There's staff that concerns me regarding integrity. Maintenance work could be improved.

Brookdale: almost like home
So far the family really likes and approves of Brookdale. Great choice. Mom is settling in nicely. It fit her style and personality. We were trying to get it as close to home feeling as possible. Friendly, thorough and focused on community members and their families.

Solid Choice
Infrastructure, scheduling, maintenance, rooms and apartments are in relatively good condition with upgrades conducted fairly often. Over the last 2 years staffing challenges has resulted in periodic shortages of cleaning staff, inconsistent meal quality and community shuttle downtime. These staff shortages/turnover move ratings from 4 to 3. It is not the shiniest of communities, but a solid option.

Generally positive, but.... shop around. They have work to do. Food on floor around serving trays. Not mopped or cleaned daily. Sometimes they run out of food options. Nuts in deserts when strong nut allergies exists. Also ....after 10 PM, the security needs to be more active. Either have an employee at the door to allow entrance to residents or provide residents with a key. Having the facility common areas unlocked is not a safe environment.

Great interaction and overall experience with Brookdale
It was wonderful to have a preliminary meeting with the site manager. She was very friendly, [name removed], and answered a lot of our questions. The staff overall seem to respond quickly to requests for help. The patrons there are friendly, and also appear satisfied with the services in accommodations.
